i dont get a chance to hunt alot but i get out as often as i can mainly helping farmers with foxes rabbits and feral dogs and cats. Hunting pigs with dogs is a once a year deal when i swindle time off work. i go with a friend between us we take 4 dogs i own a pit bullx staffy and rotty xshepard my mate has got a bull mastiffxrigeback and staghound x bullmastiff both dogs are very experianced mine are only young and still learning. between all dogs they have acccount 4 about 70 pigs.most hunting is done off the back of a ute where the dogs will pik up a scent and jump off the ute and chase once they find it my pitty will bail it upas he is the quikest without toching the pig then when the others catch the bigger dogs will grab an ear or a leg or whatever each and hold it till we arrive and deliver a blow with a knife this is the most dangerous time as a cranky 80 kg boar will try its best to take out 1 or all of the dogs and u if you r in the wrong spot my mate has lost 2 dogs in 5 years and received 60 stiches in his calf courtesy of a 70 kg boar with 4 inches of ivory gouging his leg as it ran by with 4 dogs chasing it was caught but at a price.any other info u want just ask and ill reply when i can.GOOD HUNTING RUGER

Thanks for the reply.

Dogging pigs is a sport that I want to try one day. It sure looks exciting.

I was talking to a custom knife manufacturer a while back as I wanted him to make me up a boar spear. Puma in Germany makes a nice one, and I saw one somewhere else as well, and I have always wanted one (I know, crazy!). But I wanted to see if I could get one custom made up here in Australia. He said, just use a knife, but I like these boar spears. Usually a 8 to 12 inch blade, with a cross bar a few inches below this (to prevent a charging boar from running up the blade and shaft), plus a nice long shaft. Then I just have to use it.

Good hunting to you as well
