Hi,
my thougts have circled more and more towards a DRdrilling. I currently have a conventional drilling, but with my hunting I'd be better off with one that sports two riflebarrels, not only one.
I'm thinking of either a Mathelon MXD(L?)fox, or Merkel 691L in 9,3x74R/20/76mm
Are there anyone who have owned or used the spesific brands I refer to? I'd be very happy to hear from you, and get some advice. If someone has used the older Mathelon/ Merkel DRdrillings that would be of great use too.
I'd like one that has three locks and no modern cocking device, so Krieghoff Optima is out of the question.
How durable are they? I've heard they're more likely to develop slack as the riflebarrels lie rather high above the hingepoint? Is that true? I reckon what is tight and fine from the factroy will remain like that as long as the gun is used correctly? Anyone who has experienced different?
The Merkel is ready for a pivot mount, and is the model that I can obtain for "less" money, that seems like a good deal. BUT I'll go for the one that is most likely to keep fit for the longest time. I have a Merkel DR that I'm very pleased wit, but have seen several merkels that has gone loose.. So I hesitate about choosing Merkel.. Any reason for it?
(A "tailormade" DRdrilling from Ferlach is WAY OUT of my pricerange, but they are probably even lighter an better made)

None of our french members who have tried the Mathelon MXD?
I know I made a thread about DRD's a year ago, but only now I've narrowed it down to two brands, and would very much like to get Your advice and suggestions before I invest in something I don't have much experience with.

Here the other day I parted with my Sauer & Sohn drilling, and this week I put in an order on a Mathelon MXD. I hope I won't regret going to a doublerifledriling. I'll post some pic's for others to see when I get it. Might take half a year or so as I've been told.
It amuses me that this type of gun has no users on the forum?? It is in my view a great hunting gun. I ordered mine in 2x9,3x74R/20ga mag with 56cm barrels. A neat and handy gun at just around 3,5kg. I've just ordered a Leupold 1,5-5x20 to go with it.

hi daryl
the dbl rifle drilling is a dbl rifle side by side with a single shotgun barrel under, usually a great work of art.

I am a great fan of the double rifle drilling.
After hunting with 3 double rifles and a regular drilling for several years I finally got myself a DRD, a Blaser D 99 Duo in 9,3x74RX9,3x74RX20ga 3".
I liked it so much I also got a Blaser D 99 Duo in 308x308x20ga 3".
They are great hunting rifles.
Let us know how yours shoots.

Mathelon is a much higher quality product than a Merkel. Mathelons are given much more finishing. Nothing wrong with Merkels, but they are 'factory guns', I've handled a few Mathelons and they are very nicely made.

That was good news Chasseur!
I'm really looking forward to getting such a gun. I'm still waiting for the interpreter to get my order going... (It's beeing translated into french) So, I've got more time to wonder wether I should go for 60 or 56cm barrels?? I've almost made up my mind about 56 to get a lighter gun. however, would the handling be better in 60cm? Let's say, would it swing better? I'm putting a lot of money into this gun, for my budget anyway, so I don't want to regret anything a few years from now... Any views concerning barrellength? I'm used to 60cm on my 16ga Sauer, but the Mathelon will be considerably slimmer..! A shorter barrellength seems in place..
