Hollis & Sons????
      #88571 - 09/11/07 02:36 PM

A non-shooting friend was given an old shotgun-he said it was made by Hollis & Sons, and by his description it sounds like a muzzleloading SXS 12 gauge-hoping he brings it the next time he comes to the area so I can get more specific details. He wanted the gun more "to have it" than to use it, although he hopes to start hunting soon(with something more modern). I had never heard of the company, anyone have information on them? Also, is there any collector value other than simply as an old gun? He lives several hours away so it's tough to go with him if he tries to sell, but at the same time I want to make sure he's not selling something he shouldn't-I did tell him to keep it, but I'm a sucker for any gun older than me, and that's not very old(30).
Thanks for any information.

Not enough information. There were several Hollis gunmaking companies. The primary two are Isaac Hollis and A. (Alfred) Hollis - which were separate, unrelated companies. "Hollis & Sons" (plural) suggests Isaac Hollis, but it could be one of the others. Full name and barrel address would help a lot.

Will definitely get the rest of the info-as far as I'm concerned it's a great one to have, but like I said, it's an old gun in (theoretically) shootable condition-neither of us will be the ones to test that, though. hoping to have it in-hand and write everything down early next month.
