Marrakai could answer best--

A full house 577 lite could possibly run 750 gr at 1850 ft/sec or better for around 5500 ft pnds energy.A 650 gr bullet could go ?1950 ft/sec.This will kill any Buff out there if shot placement is satisfactory.

I would think recoil with full loads should be on par with a 500 NE- stout but manageable.

OK, OK...!

Here's my opinion on the cartridge.

...again!

In truth, I'm happy to post this as often as NE.com members will tolerate!
My love-affair with the cartridge continues to increase every time I take that Greener double afield.

Marrakai your back!

So I'm throwing in my two cents here on the 577 2 3/4" having finished one and started a second. The light loadings produce around 5200 to 5500 FPE, and is enough for anything that walks on this planet. Recoil in a 10.5 to 12 pound gun would be stout but manageable. The great thing about the caliber/load is the BIG hole it makes. I thought about making a super light < 9 lbs 577 2.75" with the above loads for ease of carrying, but recoil would/could be a real head ringer. At, 13.5 lbs, my 10ga Jana Action 577 2.75" is a pussy cat to shoot with a juiced up load of 750 grn bullet at 1950FPS. This is 95% of 3" load, but has less felt recoil and still produces around 6500FPE.

For North American Game, I believe a nice 577 BPE in any size would be a hoot. Big lead bullet, making a big hole and easy to shoot.

For grins, I'm collecting old bowling balls and pins for a youtube video of 577NE destruction!

We're not that lucky! This post was dredged up from the musty files from 07.

I have been meaning to ask previously, as the .577 light has intrigued me since I first read about it. Although I must finish my .404 first, before I get too carried away with this.
So, Greener Empire's can be found in Australia with a little looking, but who could make up a set of barrels here now. I think a round like this would bring a grin from ear to ear after every shot.

Now thats funny!!

Guess I'll have to take over the flagship of the 577 2 3/4" except I like the not so light nitro.

Okay, but if you want to shoot one here is a Hollis 2 3/4" 750 grain rifle you can pop some off with.

Sorry for dredging up the past but I recently found BlainSmipy’s 577 2 ¾” not so light nitro on GunsAmerica and being the untrusting type posted here to see if anyone knew anything about the rifle or its maker. When I found out he was a member here it went from a curiosity to a genuine interest. I’ve been fascinated by the 577 2 ¾” ever since I stumbled onto Marrakai’s article Dancing with the Fat Lady a year or two ago.

Mick: That Hollis is very nice. Any idea or guess as to
when it was made?

No idea. It would seem to be before 1910 though. A guess.
