I am considering getting a new bow. Going back to the basics. I am looking at a Black widow takedown recurve or long bow.

Black Widow Bows

These are some SWEET bows. But far from cheap. Costing about as much as a fully set up top of the line compound bow.

It would be great bagging a big bull elk with an old fashioned bow!

Iron,

I have an ancient Daman Howatt recurve. It's a bice bow and someday I hope to master it. I have found that trad is very different than using a compound so it presents a lot of problems for me.

Those BW bows are nice but you should also look at some of the guys who make these by hand at home. Have a bow made to your specifications.

Good luck!

My dad started me with a "traditional" bow. The thing is, that's all there was that long ago! The key is concentration.

As to cost, well Dad bought a Browning Nomad and then a Browning Grizzly and the price he paid would be US $424+ (for each, he must have loved it!) today. With that in mind, these are not bad prices. Being near to an old fart and cheap so-and-so all my life, I often have to remind myself that the value of the things hasn't changed but the price has as money has been devalued.

I started off with a recurve and then stopped using it for a long time.

Now with a new compound I have tried both and I know which is easier. No competition at all.
