Baikal Doubles - availability

After reading posts on this site for the last few years I now have a desire to own a double rifle. Now as much as it would be great to own a fine old double the MfW&F wouldn't allow that sort of monetary outlay.

So I'm restricted to a lesser cost item. Then along comes the Baikal SXS double. Whilst in Sydney recently I was able to handle a Baikal SXS in 30-06. At $1200 I figured that wasn't too bad for me to indulge in my hobby. But I already own several 30-cal rifles and don't want another one even if it is 30-06.

I do own a Marlin levergun in 45-70 though and had read of the improved ballistics this cartridge is capable of in a solid lock-up action. So figured one of these Baikal SXS's in 45-70 would be the duck's nuts for me. Load it up with 405 or 500gn pills and see how it performs against pigs, deer, camel, buff etc.

Have been trying to get some info on when / if these rifles/calibre will be available here in Aust. Does anyone on this site have any info?

The word from Russia is that the .45-70 version is rated at 28000 CUP/PSI

hi gunnie

i have a friend who was at the factory last week, and i askede him to bring home a couppel of them.
his message was dont hold your breath waiting it might take a long time before anything 45-70 comes from this factory.
damn and i was getting my hopes up again.
