I would even consider one in 12 x 9.3x74. I think that would be a super hunting rifle for North America.

Yeah, I was re-thinking my post about a 12 gauge with EITHER a 30-06 or a 9.3X74R and think the 9.3X74R would be the ideal hunter. I guess I thought of the 30-06 because of ammo availability not to mention that it is such a versatile round with sound performance since the early 1900's.

But that 9.3 just has more punch for bears. You never know how big it may be...

Thats a nice idea - I'd like an O/U with a 20bore barrel on top and a .303 barrel on the bottom.......

I think a pair would be nice!! Something like a 12 gauge over 9.3x74R and maybe another one in 16 gauge over 243 would be super.

LIsten fellows.
I have a BRNO combination 12/7x57R ...with an extra set of 12 ga. barrels. This gun is insanely accurate.....I can get a ragged hole @ 100 yards with S&B ammo. The gun comes with a FINE QD mount that attached to the rail....and the mount is designed for this model gun. It comes with a European scope (post reticle) with eminently clear optics (I think 6X but not positive). Blue is 100%, wood is 100%, bores are 100%.......this is a GREAT gun. I have others, so want to sell this one....@ 1200. plus postage....and I absolutely guarantee everything said above.
I will take pics and send if anyone wants to see.

...HERE YOU GO! And it can be yours for a mere $6,500.00, and I'll toss in a bit of ammo.

Mine neither, Mike... It will be trimmed to a nice appropriate splinter soon. I had the same thing done with this Sauer 3000 in 12 & 30-06 a while back and like it much better now. The Simson beavertail looks much bigger and wider in the photos than it in fact is, but it will be in for some surgery, for sure and will resemble the Sauer.

I have had four Winchester 101 O/U combos over the years and I currently have two. The guns were sold as "Grand European" or "Super Grade" models, depending upon the engraving and calibers. I would search for them using those phrases. It is not very difficult to find them on the used gun market and they often can be found as new or nearly new guns. The calibers available included a 12ga barrel with 7x57, 7x65R, 9.3x74R, or .30-06. There were other calibers made but I don't remember the full selection and these are the ones I have had my hands on. The shotgun barrels have removable chokes built on the WinChoke system. The guns were made in Japan just like the other model 101s but the quality is good for the prices they go for. They came with detachable scope rings and bases similar to the EAW swing mounts. They usually come in a nice canvas luggage case. Once sighted in, the rifle barrels are very accurate. I have never had any trouble with mine but if you did, there are a lot of Winchester 101 parts available to the many gunsmiths qualified to work on these guns. The two I still have are built on the 7x65R and 9.3x74R barrels. I really like these guns and I would recommend them for anyone looking for a reasonably priced combination gun. I have used the 7x65R by 12ga to hunt deer, pigeon, and chukar.

Prices on these guns is usually in the $2500-$3500 range with some people occasionally taking less and others holding out for more. The "Grand European" is a little dressier than the "Super Grade" and usually costs a little more.

You can get an idea from these links. The first one is priced a bit high because the expensive EAW 30mm scope rings are not standard (they came with 1") and because of the custom stock work (2 stocks).

The second link will take you to listings by Double Eagle Trading Company. He currently has two for sale one is a .30/06X12ga for only $2100! I don't think it will last long at that price.

I also had a Winchester 101 "Grand European" 7x65R double rifle but I could never get it to shoot both barrels to the same point of aim. I tried everything and the best I could do was 12-18" at 100yds so I do not recommend the double rifles.

Jack,

It is a Simson, and I believe it is a 30 series, but I need to find out. Without opening my safe to check, I'll say it was produced in 1984. It didn't matter to me, because it was a very sound drilling that shoots like a target rifle and is in 12 gauge and 9,3X74R, made with modern steels and made to take today's shotgun ammo. I'm glad you asked, however, and will nail down the model designation. The scope is excellent in poor light conditions, and the QD swing mount is of a type I've not seen before; it works great!!

Depending on the results of a biopsy in the near future, it may end up for sale...it and others.

Here's hoping they don't go up for sale for a long time.

Best wishes,

Jeff
