Hello Folks,
I wasn't quite sure where to post this request, so I figured here was as good as anywhere. I'd like to acquire a book on Rigby rifles. I want to learn about the history of the company and the founder, read hunting stories in which Rigby rifles were used, and look at lots of good pictures of them. I'm especially interested in muzzleloading rifles. Can you recommend any books to me?
Take care, Tom

I'm not aware of any book specifically on Rigby, but there is an article ("English Elephant Rifles") on page 136 of the 12th Edition (1958) of Gun Digest which despite the name deals exclusively with Rigby. Only five pages long, there's not a lot of information, but it's better than nothing.

G'day Tatume,
you could try Cornell Publications for copies of old catalogues. www.cornellpubs.com

A friend recently lent me a book titled Original Oberndorf Sporting Rifles. It is about Mauser rifles by authors Speed, Schmid and Herrmann. It has a chapter on British made Mausers. The first part contains about 13 pages on Rigby including a table of Rigby rifle production and sales, 1898-1928 (includes serial no's, calibres, dates and other good info. The book is 471 pages in total, so the section on Rigby is quite small but it is an excellent book with heaps of photos and excellent information IMO. I have seen them listed on Amazon.com from about $70 US upwards plus postage. I am also interested in any books on Rigby so if you get some more details of books could you please PM me. Thanks, Ted

Hello Folks, Just FYI, I have found two interesting books. They are "Great Irish Gunmakers Messrs Rigby" by D.H.L Back (ISBN 0-9508842-3-5) and "The Gun and its Development" by W.W. Greener (ISBN 1-55521-238-7).
Take care, Tom
