Blue dot powder and boreguns??
      #83903 - 12/08/07 03:18 AM

hey guys!

In most of the articals about gaugeguns and loading for them..Blue Dot powder shows up....good thing...because we can get Blue dot here in denmark..

1) My 10 Bore manton will be shooting blackpowder aswell as smokeless...but natually the volume of smokeless ( 60 grain Blue Dot) will not fill up the the 10bore 3.25" case.
Will it be safe to fill the rest of the volume with feltwads??...or maybe leave a little airspace?? I can get all the fiber/felt wads in 10 gauge I want..or would dakronfiber work just as well??.

2) Could it be feasable/safe to make up some multible ball loads..like 2-3 balls pr case??

3) I have ordered two bulletmols from NEI handtools...one in 900grain and another in 1080grain.
In all the old books these gauge guns, shooting conical balls, all state that hardned lead
should be used. What was considered hardned lead in the old days? 20 brinell?

Thanks

Rigby,
I use a nitrocard over the charge and then fiber wads to take up the airspace for my bluedot loads. It would be possible, with the cases I am using, for the bullet to fall or be pushed back into the case, if there was an air space. 12 to 1 was the recommended Holland spec for casting in their bore rifles but you could go harder. I wouldn't shoot multiples, why would you want to, this is a rifle not a shotgun? You need to get the appropriate round ball mold or bullets for your gun just to see how they print on the target. What is your bore and groove diameter?

Thanks gatsby!!

the rifle is this one here..
http://www.champlinarms.com/Default.aspx...3&GunID=837

The bores are .775cal...don`t know the groove?

I have thought of having a toolmaker to make up me a crimping-plier....
Where can I get a shellholder for the 10 gauge brass??
Is it nessesary to full-length size the brass after firing?
What would be best to order brass using shotgunprimers or rifleprimers??...

oh..The multible ballloads were for anthills/junglework and such...no serious thing really.hahaha ...just "funloads"

Thanks again gatsby...
