375 H&H Flanged Magnum Ammo
      #83728 - 08/08/07 10:21 PM

Alright Everyone... I am heading to Zimbabwe in late october of this year (obviously I'm inside of the 90 day mark). I recently purchased a 375 H&H Double (Flanged) and I am having a very difficult time buying factory loads that are not the belted magnum rounds. Does anyone know where I can buy, or order, factory loads in 270+ grain bullets? My .470 and .500 are very easy to find ammo for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is EXACTLY why you should sell the 375 Flanged to me!!!

Due to the scarcity of factory ammo, I'll only be able to offer you one-half of what you paid for it.

Is it legal for one guy to own a 375 Flanged and a 470 and a 500???

Welcome to the forum and let us know how the 375 shoots and how your hunt turns out.

LoL, sometimes I think it shouldn't be. I purchased a CZ 550 Safari .375 H&H Belted, I absolutely love that rifle. I put a Meopta scope on top and I have almost nail driver accuracy out to 300 yards. Anyway, the 375 shoots amazing, the ammo provided appears to be "hot loaded" as the brass expands so much, the extractors cannot push forward when trying to extract the spent brass. I was able to secure ammo from westley richards usa. we'll see how that does.

I was unable to pass on the deals I received on the 470 and 500. Several thousand less than MSRP, and both were only fired at the factory.

Hey,

DO NOT try to force the rounds out!!! Knock them out with a cleaning rod until you get the load right. The cam on the fore-end will be stressed and where the pin is will become oval. I did that, %^&#@!!

I shoot a reduced load in my .375 H&H rimmed double.

77 grains of H414 for a 270 grain bullet. You could start with 70 grains and go from there.

...which I would avoid. To be blunt, I wouldn't fire the Westley ammo that you've already obtained.

Their ammo line is loaded for them by Wolfgang Romey in Germany. Word in the trade is that Westley requested their ammo be "hotted up". I've heard of a number of incidents of severe overloads with it in doubles. My own experience with it was nothing if not over the top. I'll put it this way, I won't stay on the line if someone is firing it in a double.

In the event that you simply must fire it, like Bonanza said, if you have to force the gun open like that on the first rounds, STOP and don't shoot any more of it. What you described is never normal and may well be suggestive of ammunition that is unsafe.

In .375 Flanged Magnum, your best bet is Kynoch. I've never used it in that caliber, but it's been good in the calibers I've tried. Connecticut Shotgun (Galazan's) is, or was, their US distributor, not M. W. Reynolds. If they don't have it in stock, call or email David Little at Kynoch in the UK. Contact data is on their web site, and David is always extremely helpful.

dear .440 Nitro Express, I am told that the Romey ammo you buy from Richards, is expressly loaded for them. If you buy it from other suppliers it IS NOT hot loaded. rgds, Mike Bailey (currently waiting for his rimmed .375 Royal (1 year ish gone, 2 more years to go)

Re-read my post. I was specifically addressing Westley Richards ammunition. You've introduced something else.

What you say about the rest of the ammo loaded by Romey may be true, but is beside the point. What he has done with the Westley ammo, whether Westley requested it or not, is irresponsible enough that I won't be using any of his products.
