sxs slug gun??

Hi Guys,

I've read about sxs shotguns that are designed to shoot slugs. I was wondering if anyone would know what brands, makes and models were available and where you can buy one.

The Holland and Holland "Paradox" and the Westley Richards "Explora" and "Fauneta" are the preeminent ball and shotguns utilizing rifled chokes. A number of other makers had their own versions with different methods of stabilizing the projectile while maintaining good shot patterning.Barreled from 28 to 8 gauge with the 12 being most common. Two Hollands just sold at the Holt's Auction. Prices range from about 5K to 50K US.

I have an A.Hollis 12 bore with invisible rifling/oval bore ,boxlock ejector.

Not sellin just tellin. It's proofed nitro for 750 gr bullet and will shoot one hole at 25 yds or 50 yds but at 100 yds,well we're still working on that.

Ugartechea makes a double sxs slug gun, Silvio Brignoli of Italy makes one and others... plus as Daryl and now I have found you can make just about any sxs shotgun shoot slugs accurately for hunting under 100 yards...

Beretta does too, but they don't import the model to the US. I guess you could ask the Galleries, they might try to help.

I have seen a Holland & Holland in India that had the Paradox chokes - just the front 2 or so inches of the barrel had rifling.

I have also seen a Hollis in India that had full length rifling. I have been really intrigued by these guns. There seems to be more art & craft rather than science with these guns! Ross Seyfried had some interesting articles on how they were so well regulated to shoot accurately with black powder loads & balls that were cast for the particular barrels - the mould came with the gun! Must be a very expensive proposition today.

My dad shot two tigers with an Astra 12 bore- AYA's poor brother from the same castle. The hammer gun was bought new in 1951 & he used Eley Lethal Ball ammo. I remeber handling this ammo as a kid in the 60's - the "ball" looked like a dick head! Four segments of lead were soldered together & the solder seam was very pronounced. I am getting the photos of the tiger digitally restored & will post tham shortly.

Chapuis makes a 12ga Slug SXS that is regulated for Brenneke slugs.

The ones I have seen have the same iron sights as the 9,3x74R double rifles.

They also had the rib cut for Chapuis scope mounts.

Fabarm offer interchangeable chokes in their Nobile II 20 gauge shotguns with Paradox rifling. No idea if they offer them in the US though. A friend who is an RFD in the UK has used them and likes them a lot.

Reminton also offered screw-in rifled choke tubes. I've not hear if they work well or not.

And you are dead right about the ammo. It is pretty disturbing! Taylor in African Rifles and Cartridges has a picture of some of that big 12-bore ammo and it looks like the only place a guy would be able to buy it was at a "XXX" Sex Shop!!

I wouldn't want any of that stuff lying around the house. Heck, my wife might see it. Who wants to have to compete with that???????
