10.25x69R ammo
      #82365 - 13/07/07 01:20 PM

Need help in finding some 10.25x69R ammo for use in a H Scherping
cape gun I aqquired recently, it is fluid steel on the rifle bbl &
Damascus steel on the 12 gauge bbl. I though I might see if I could
some prior to buying dies and making my own, will also be in need of bullets.

thanks
Mike

This gun probably was made well before WW I, for black powder cartridges.
I have never heard of such a metric cartridge of German or Austrian origin.
This does not mean it did not exist - but then old cartridges will be extremely rare.
But those dimensions might be the metric designation of a British cartridge, .400 caliber and 2 3/4 case length.

If you have access to John Donnellys book have a look at
450/400
475 nitro express
476 Westley richards
50/140 ( 3 1/4") sharps
I,m not saying they are going to drop straight in but they are the closest ones I can see.
the book is called
The Handloaders Manual of Cartridge Conversions
by John J Donnelly
printed by Stoeger Publishing Co
ISBN 0-88317-136-8
good shooting

M4220:
When I return home this evening, I have some books with good Eurpean Sporting Cartridge reference. By coincidence, the main book is called European Sporting Cartridges! I is more a cartridge collectors book, but to find dimensions of many obsolete and very limited production oldies, this is a good source.
I also have a couple of capes. One is German by F.R. Neumeyer in a vey odd 9.5X56 bottleneck. From the books, I found I can make brass by reforming 11.15X60R (11Mauser). The previous post may well be the case for a .450 NP based case. This was popular for some time. My other is a Huskavarna SXS cape in a 12.7X44R. Both have shot barrels in 16 ga 2.5 (65mm).
I am fasinated by the SxS combos and these old calibers. I will let you know what I find.
Congrats on the find and aquasition. Post photos.
I will when I figure out how.

Sorry folks after chamber casting I am told it is a 10.25x60R and is
mentioned on page 45 of Dixon's "european sporting cartridges" vol 1
as being commercially loaded from 1873 until 1910. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.
thanks
