RCBS Cowboy Dies, will they work with a Fosbery slug?

I noticed that Huntingtons now list a set of RCBS Cowboy shotshell dies in 12 gauge. Does anybody know if the crimping die they have would work to put a small roll crimp over the top of the leading edge of a Fosbery type slug, using brass cases? I'm concerned that the die may not let the loaded round enter into the die far enough to reach the crimp ring. The dies seem to be for shot loads, but thought that it might just work for Paradox load crimping too.

I can't give you a definitive answer for the Huntingtons dies, but most shotshell dies do not taper crimp brass. I had to have a special die made up for brass cases with inserts for star crimp,5 degree taper and 10 degree taper for brass. You might call Huntingtons and ask what the dies are capable of.

I take it you don't really mean a roll-crimp on a brass shotshell hull, rather a normal crimp such as for revolver cartridges.

The easiest might be to step-crown a short length of steel tubing of the correct size to slip over the projectile and rest on the case-mouth. A light rap with something handy, ie piece of wood, will form the crimp nicely. Brass shotshells are quite thin and easy to crimp. I have done this for 16-bore spherical ball in CBC cases, but haven't loaded more than a few cartridges at this stage (gun is currently stripped for restoration). No worries with the crimp when firing, though.

True, I would think it would be more of a taper to keep the projectile from falling out, I was just going straight from the RCBS literature. I have sent Huntingtons an e-mail to see if they can shed any more light on it.
Failing that, I'll just make myself a forming die as you described.
