Recknagel's Sidelock Double Actions
      #81624 - 02/07/07 05:34 AM

I know from the views of experts here that the black art of building and especially regulating a double rifle is not for the faint of heart or for the person with a light bank balance. But I learned from my good friend Johan that Recknagel offer Holland and Holland style back action sidelocks like other companies offer bolt actions for custom work.

Would this be a good way to go if someone wanted to save some money getting a budget double rifle made? Has anyone done this yet?

Thanks for all opinions and good hunting!

I have just got their latest catalouge delivered. They have Mauser actions but no sidelocks in it in spite of their being in the catalouge index. Do you have any more information on this ??

Regards

i was att the iwa show in germany,
the sidelock actions are nice but they are pricey as well.
if you can get one complete with the guts (trigger/s safety and so on) why not.
the ones i saw there where in the white and unhardened...

New England Custom is there rep in the US and on the link it does talk about a SXS action. Perhaps a call to the US rep might shed more lite?

I placed a call to the above and was told that I needed to call back in the AM to speak to Mark Cromwell the co-owner. The fellow I talked with did not know anything about the action. I'll call them in the morning.

I talked to Mark Cromwell this morning at NECG and he will contact the manufacture and get back to me about the actions. Don't you all just love these time differences?

Well it is now the 14th of July and I've had no reply from NECG, still waiting.

E-mail just in from Mark Cromwell of NECG " Recknagel no longer carries this action".

3sixbits,

Thanks for checking. I guess I shall need to work harder if I am to buy a double rifle in the future. No shortcut possible now that the actions are not available...

Good hunting!

I wonder if you were to talk to Recknagel directly, if they would tell you who made the actions, maybe they had an outside firm make the actions? It might be worth a try.

3sixbits,

I shall be travelling to Europe towards the end of the year and hope to talk to them in person. Thanks for the excellent suggestion. I shall post what I learn over here, of course.

Good hunting!
