Luv2Safari, the crawdad festival is now called the Budweiser festival and yes the marina is still there.

MikeH, the guy was about 6' away from me and it was an automatic reaction on my part. If I was closer, he'd never had the chance to do what he did. You always do what you're trained to do as muscle memory and instinct takes over. I had a Richmond TAC guy there also and he said he would have capped him. In my instance, I had time to assess the situation and reholster when I saw that it was a nitwit and I was not in danger.

As I said , I'm just glad I wasn't in your shoes-I'd probably need a clean change of underwear.

In reply to:

but I think if a customer pointed a rifle at me like that, I'd like to think I'd grab the muzzle end of the barrel, direct it to the side, and in no uncertain terms advise the idiot that he's an A Hole.

or just give him a nice shiner with the butt-stock.

Ah yes, I forgot about the good old fashioned horizontal butt stroke. If properly applied it's good for breaking the jaw, cheek bone, nose and eye socket-all at once.

You have to remember, to properly execute the butt-stroke, you have to have the proper butt with the old fashioned steel butt plate. Also, the rifle has to weigh over 11#. Don't you remember playing with M1 Garands and M14's? There's the really old guy, the 03A3 also. It barely qualifies as a good butt stroker but has a steel butt plate.

sorry 475, I was born AFTER Vietnam... (1978), I've never fired a 1903, M1, or M14... hell, I've never fired an AR-15... my closest experience to an assault rifle is either my mauser sporters or a Ruger 10/22!!!

475Guy

Does that mean if you have a horn buttplate you're screwed?

No, if the horn buttplate is properly fitted, you won't get screwed.

Mickey, maybe. There is a remote chance that the horn buttplate would shatter upon impact. If you doubt the hardness of the human skull just ask some of cops that you know and the stories that will come that will surprise you. I personally saw a dude get whacked across the face with long nightstick and saw it crack into two parts. Now I don't know who was more surprised, the cop or the perp. Maybe the stick was getting fatigued and was going to fail at one point anyway.
