Hello Folks,
Frank DeHaas and his son designed what they believed to be the best single-shot falling block action. With the help of Mr. Miller, they refined it and brought it to production. Based on the name and photographs, if I am not mistaken, the rifle is being produced by Dakota Arms as the Miller. Can anyone confirm that this is the DeHaas Miller action? Have any of you had experience with the Miller rifle, as produced by Dakota? Would you please comment (especially on accuracy)? Thank you.

Take care, Tom

While I've enjoyed de Haas' books immensely, I thought that particular action was nothing to rave about. You might pose your question to the folk at forums of the ASSRA.

I went and looked at the Dakota site to see their action. The claim "the fact that 75% of all Schuetzen competition shooters choose Miller" is likely pure B.S. The Schuetzen scores I've seen posted never list a Miller, but most of the ones I see are ASSRA, and those guys prefer the older actions. I've read Dakota went bankrupt for good reasons; take care.

edit: Ok, I was wrong: I just looked at the ASSRA forums today and find a post on C Sharps triggers, and in one reply a guy mentions the Millers are common in Schuetzen.

Once upon a time I was a rabid single shot shooter. In the early '80s I owned a DeHaas-Miller single shot chambered in 6mm Remington. It was S/N 13 and proved the unlucky nature of that number (for those who are superstitious).

The rifle was absolutely mint condition and showed no flaws at all, but try as I could, nothing would shoot accurately in it. Believe me, I tried all the tricks I knew and then some. I have no idea if this rifle was representative of the breed, but that was my experience.

I think if you owned one today it would be worth many times what you paid just for the action. It is the winning action!

Yeah, I suppose so. That was 20-25 years ago, and a lot of water has passed under the bridge in the meantime.

I have only seen a couple of these rifles, never shot one, and the actions impressed me as rather bulky and clunky looking, not likely to make up into a handy hunting rifle, OK for target shooting maybe.

The one I had was not bulky at all. Much smaller than a Ruger No. 1. I think it might have been beefed up in later production.
