Family is in town from America and we took them on the obligatory Game drive.

As we passed several herds of Blue Wildebeest. I looked them over very carefully and could not figure out which was a mature trophy animal and which wasn't.



How do you judge Wildebeest in the field. What do you look for?

The ears of a good willie will be about 18" tip to tip! with the width of the ears inside the up curve of the horns will give you about a 26', or 27" spread. Now you want the horns to have heavy bosses, and to drop from the boss down sort of like a cape buffalo, then turn back up to a highth of about 5" above the tops of the bosses, and if you can get a look at him from the side, the points should turn back for the last 4"or 5". For the SCI measurement, you measure on the outside of the horn, from one tip, acorss the top of the bosses, to the other tip, and combine the boss measurements, for a total score in Inches! As was said, the one in the picture is too young, and I'd judge him to be only in the 20" spread, with no mass at all.
