I got to thinking today (a dangerous thing)...I know they made falling blocks in .600NE back in the day, but were they ever made in any of the "bore" rounds, eight or ten?

I have a book with a photo of a .700 in it but that is the largest I know of... and that rifle is a collector's show piece which I doubt will ever be shot.

John I have handled few Farqs. They are very light for calibre. The biggest one I would want to own would be a 450/400.

Anyone know the patent?

That is a Field patent sidelever falling block action - very simple, extremely robust.

-Tony, sorry yes i know, was answering to 'falling block' action.
Belgmart-robust.....robust enough for use with heavy loads i.e. old bp elephant/rhinoceros loads? Looks tip-top for that sort of use!!!!!!

Yes, the Field is pretty solid - design-wise about as solid as a Win. Hiwall, but simpler. Falling block, high sidewalls etc. make for a really solid action. And Field had a reputation for quality manufacture, hid actions were used by Greener, H&H and other illustrious names.
