I've had a dream with two lions.

Don't think they were shot though. I always wake up to the crunching of bones.

I have if you count helping out a PH and a client stop a couple of them...I have joined in the fun on more than several ocassions over the years when it looked cheeky, or on follow ups and by request I might add, as I don't butt in on another fellows hunt, but most allow an extra gun is well received on a Lion follow up, some with Buffalo and elephant....I have shot the cats but in all honesty I am not a cat hunter...I love to hunt Buffalo and also big elephant bulls, thats my thing....But big bull elephant get further away all the time, as they have gotton to expensive for me...I still shoot 5 to 10 Buffalo every year...

Ray
How do you rate leopard V's Couger in terms of size, toughness, difficulty of hunting, danger. I read an article of an Aussie guy who went to the US on a couger hunt. They tree'd the cat then shot it with a pistol, I don't suppose that would work with a leopard?

Sorry for hyjacking the thread Gryph

Well, I guess I am guilty if that is the thought or I have if congratulations are due.

What is the point of the question? Lions are just another DG animal.

Yes i suppose they are just another DG animal like the four other`s that make up the big five (just another etc etc) Makes me wonder why they are so huntable if they are indeed "just another DG animal" in your mind...........

The point of the q`s was simply to read the replies and Bakesey outshone the rest of you with his post haha.....go Bakes sure you aint a lying bastard mate hahaahaaaaaaa

Ray all those buff you shoot every year, are they trophy bulls? Are they crop raiders etc? I`m asking as if they are indeed trophy bulls i was wondering why they wouldnt be left for clients.

And to any that have indeed taken a couple nows your chance to show us the pics of your trophies just to get us away from mere antelope for a change.

I heard a quote tonight by Craig Boddington on why we shoot Buffalos. "Because they are like Lawyers. There are way to many of them, they replace themselves and nobody gets emotionally attached to one."

Bakes,
I have seen my dad, a trapper of some fame, kill Mt. Lions in a steel trap with a hammer and never get injured. The Lion is a very timid animal by nature..I have killed many of them with dogs and in traps with a .22 L.R. pistol..The most dangerous thing about a Lion is he will make you hurt yourself when he hisses at you, you will run into a rock or tree, I have done that....Now the un hunted Lions in California are a different and deserved creature as they stopped all hunting and the new generation considers thier children as only part of the food chain, so I have no knowledge of the animal, he is a different sort....

Gryphon,
Mostly I have shot only 3 and 4 year old or older bulls that never grew very good horns as that is all they would ever be and they probably needed culling...

I have let many good bulls pass as I would prefer a client got them, but not always, I sure shot the bull of my dreams last year, mostly because it was ment to be and came around just right..

There are many bulls in our area so it probably makes little difference one way or the other, but I just like to hunt them and really don't care how big they are, its the chase, the failures that I remember more than the successes, at least for the most part...I do have some extra special memories....

We normally have excess bulls at the end of the year and I shoot them, that comes about in various ways..I have shot as many as 10 to 15 bulls in a single season in several countries in the past and normally at least 4 or 5 today...sometimes I arrange an extra license..

Hi,
Hey Atkinson, how hard is it for a person to get an extra licence? I know there are dates when the client is allowed to finish anything on the quota, would ALL the trophies be exportable??

Have you ever posted the photo of this buffalo? Maybe you have and I have just forgotten or missed it.

If you need assistance, please feel free to email it to me.
