Modern Falling Blocks, Whats Available?
      #7925 - 31/01/04 11:55 AM

I am wanting to find out how many Falling Blocks are still being made today and by who, Ruger and Browning come to mind any others?

The various Sharps replicas are all falling blocks, aren't they?

Dakota No.10
Hagn
Hall
Stevens 44 1/2 replicas
Searcy Farquharson (falling block?)

I could be wrong calling the Sharps replicas and the Farquharson a falling block.

Cooper used to make a falling block called the Peregine, but I don't think they made anymore.

There are any number of break actions being made in Europe.

All the Sharps are falling blocks. Mine is the Pedersoli Quigley in 45-70, have added the Soule vernier on the rear and a globe front. Pedersoli makes a fine rifle and their barrels are second to none. A good American made Sharps is at www.shilohsharps.com real fine rifles but more than I can go. While you are there you've got to check out the trophy room, some real fine buffalo. There are other makers, but these two come to mind right off.

Besides the Hall, Dakota, Stevens, and numerous Sharps as mentioned above, there are also: (1) clones of the Hepburn, Ballard, and Borchardt; (2) a new action called the Fenris-Wolf; and (3) the older E.A.Brown Model 97 and Vaussenat V98 (a modern variant of the Heeren).

Some of the 1885 Browning clones have some modern niceties added, such as an inertia firing pin for a safer carry with the hammer down on a live round, this from Meacham.

I see Ballard has recently widened their line. In addition to the Ballard and the 1885, they offer a Hepburn as well (along with a rolling block) -- busy people.
