8,8x72?
      #78906 - 19/05/07 04:36 AM

Had a fellow in the shop the other day with a drilling (no maker's name) with the rifle barrel marked 8,8 x 72. Is anyone familliar with this cartridge? From the less than great chamber cast he had, I measure it at .355 bore, and approx. 72mm long, straight taper. The only similar cartridge listed in Cartridges of the World has a bottleneck, this one clearly didn't?!?!
Any ideas?

IMO sounds like the good old 9,3x72 to me. sometimes the german makers did it by the bore size not the bullet size.

thanks for our replies, I was hoping to get some European input.
I'm not sure I understand? A 9.3 with a .355 bore? My books list the 9.3 with a 376" bore.

8.75mm (.344") for the 9.3X72R is bore diameter. Groove diameter is 9.25mm (.364"). What is the diameter of the case at the base?

Apparently it is a 9.3x72. I've heard from another source that these sometimes have a smaller bore.
Thanks to all.
