What the heck with hunting zones in Zim?
I am really confused with the different hunting zones in Zimbabwe. There are private owned ranches, communal zones, state zones, campfir, …… game parks and whatever other areas.
I would like somebody to list and precisely explain the differences between these hunting zones and their own special restrictions…………for example concerning bowhunting.

JB,
To my knowlege you can bowhunt on communal lands and private land but not on government concessions such as Chewore. I was not allowed to bowhunt there in 2005. Communal lands are tribal owned areas and government lands are traditional safari concession areas. There are not too many private owbed areas in Zim any more, at least private land that Americans can hunt on. Much of this land has been seized by the Zim government to redistribute to "war veterans". Properties that have been seized have been plundered of wildlife and plant life.

like ann says, but also the communal lands are pretty vacant of anything but people and goats too. You might get somewhere picking a communal land next to a park in the hopes something wanders out of the park, but it's a pretty slim chance.

Private land in Zim would include the ~1mm acre Save Valley Conservancy. Here try Roger Whittall Safaris, Roger owns Humani with about 150k acres, also Makore Safaris in the Save.
There is KweKwe Conservancy as well. Buzz Charlton has an interest there.
Jumbo Moore has another private area I believe and HHK has the Lemco Conservancy.

I think KweKwe is going, going gone.... Not sure but maybe someone on the ground there can confirm or deny?

When I left Harare on the 11th Buzz was hunting KweKwe with a client. Not to say there has been no ownership change of any of the constituent ranches (I do not know), but hunting seems to be going on there.

That seems like a good bowhunting option.

It is a very good option - Roger Whittall Safaris conducts many successful bowhunts here (Humani, Save Conservancy) every year.

Please refer to the thread I just posted on more trouble in Zimbabwe--not so sure any of us will be hunting there soon--I know this has been a long time coming --I hunted there in 2004 and 2005 and have a hunt booked there for 2008--but...things are looking a little more dire at this point--just FYI.. Thanks Ripp
