      #78147 - 07/05/07 06:10 AM

CAN ANYONE WHO HAS HAD EXPERIENCE WITH A "GOOD" DOUBLE RIFLE GUNSMITH IN THE U.S. --PROVIDE INFORMATION ON THIS INDIVIDUAL SO I MAY CONTACT HIM. I HAVE A DOUBLE I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SOME WORK DONE ON AND A GENERL GOING THROUGH BEFORE I GONE ON MY HUNT. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE "GOOD" AND "HONEST" ONES ARE A RARE BREED..
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.
RIPP

I have been very pleased with JJ Perodeau at Champlin Firearms 508-327-7388 and would recommend him to a friend. I find his work to be top shelf and I trust his opinion. He has done the following for me:

Complete refinish, re-regulation, stockbending, leather recoil pads and sight work for me. He also does a very good prepurchase evaluation.

Call him, you'll find him easy to work with. Like all talented people he is in demand so be prepared for a wait depending on the job.

I can second the recommendation by 470evans. I just had a Beretta O/U 9.3X74 regulated by JJ Perodeau and the work was exceptional. He took my Beretta from a rifle capable of only producing a reliable 7 to 8 inch pattern at 100 yards to one that can easily produce a 1.5 inch group at the same distance. The estimate of cost was dead on and the delivery time was just as good. I just can't ask for better work. The claw mount bases for the scope were remounted to relieve some stress, the barrels regulated, and the gun looks untouched. While I realize that this rifle is a "beater" in the world of double rifles, it was treated like a best quality double, and will shoot with any of them thanks to JJ.

JJ has done a fair amount of work for me as well.
All of it first rate.

He may do good work, but he's expensive. I have a nice boxlock action that needed a trigger guard double triggers. I asked him if he had any for sale or knew where I could find some. He said he didn't but said he could make me some triggers for about $500.00 and a trigger guard for about $90.00. Boy was he full of shit! I did some looking around and I found a parts dealer that sold Anson & Deeley parts. I bought a nice trigger guard and double triggers all for about $50.00! And being in business as long as he has, he would know. As far as I'm concerned, JJ Perodeau is a lying bum...

Gary, the chap asked for a good gunsmith to work on his double rifle. A couple of people gave good reccomendations then you call the man a lying bum because you found some cheap triggers ??!! I am having double triggers put on a double I have bought which had a single trigger. The work is costing $1000 but work on doubles is never cheap. I think you are being daft. rgds, Mike Bailey

I'm with Mike and the rest. JJ does excellent work. I'd send a gun to him again, in a heartbeat.

My experience with JJ has been very good also.

I also agree that Gary's comments are harsh. Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, I suppose.

I'm sure I will use JJ again without hesitation.
