I've got one.

I like it, it fis me well, it balances / hangs well in the hand, it points, it is extremely accurate and overall I like it.

However, it is NOT a English gun like the old pre WW11 guns
- ie it doesn't have the finish of an old English gun.

I believe they were commissioned by Champlins, made in Europe put together in England, hence the English proof marks.

To me, it is a good working gun.

As to a "good buy", I'll leave it to someone in the US to pass judgement on that. Looks OK to me but I am not up to speed with the prices at present.

I've got one too. Great gun is very accurate. This gun at Champlains has allready sold.I was told it sold with in 5 days of posting. They are quite a value for the money. To have this gun duplicated today would be in excess of 20,000.

The guns were made for Cape Outfitters, for Don Shurm. When Don passed so did the force behind the William Douglass. I think there were 99 470's made and around 10 500's.

Have you seen the Army Navy and Osbourne 450-400's at Champlins? May be worth a call.

Reading the summary is enticing regarding the Army Navy 450/400.The pictures show extensive ??scratches or finish problems with the left barrel though. No claw mounts I can see either.

The Douglass at Champlain is sold, and was sold a few months ago. George is a great guy, but his webmaster is fast to post new items, and slow to remove them once they are sold. You need to call to check. Dave
