homemade knives

So. i have seen some well made DR's here on this forum. But what about knives. I will show you mine if you show yours.

first one:

made from masur birch and ivory nut, the blade is from Poul strande www.poulstrande.com
truly a master in his field and not that expensive.



another one that shows the wood better



number two:

made from elmswood and buf horn tip



(and yes DT that is the one sako used for a chewtoy. right after that i did this to him, i think he got the point)

Good topic. Need to take some digi-photos on the weekend.

Very interesting knives, Peter.

I have one being made in New Zealand at the moment, by a mate's dad. Can't wait to get it. Damascus blade, to my design with his flair. Here's a sample of his work:



Double twist Damascus blade
5 in long handle
5.5 in long blade
African ebony handle
stainless finger guard
stainless pommel with four pins and epoxyed on
3mm thick blade at spine in front of finger guard
slight flex in blade at tip
took a couple of weeks to make

This is one of my favorites



The knife is a HD1 handle is amboyna burl with bone spacer. Nickel guard with 4 5/8" 2700 layer Damascus blade with filework. Handmade by Herb Derr.

This one I carry a lot.


Mike Irie #16 Sweet Tooth with black micarta handle ATS34 Blade custom sheath by Fred Eisen.

Foxfire: i like the damascus blade knife what about the handle how does it feel when you use it in the pic it looks a bit square ?

Peter: how did I know that you would be inquiring about the knives Roger has displayed? they are quite nice.

I have a few knives but only two worth photographing and posting here well actually only one of them is mine, the other one belongs to my eldest son, he doesnt know it yet but he will be getting it June when he graduates from the 8th grade. I purchased it from a very good maker and friend of mine Mr. Ed VanHoy of VanHoy Custom Knives in Virginia.

He makes fantastic Stamascuss blades. The knife I bought for my son is sitting in my desk drawer here at work and it has been all I could do to hang on to it and not give it to him early.
The other knife worthy of mention is one I bought from Arno Bernard and all I know for certain is that the handle is made of giraffe bone and I am reluctant to take it in the field for fear of losing it.... although the knife fits snuggly in its cape buffalo sheath, I would feel better if it had a teather on the knife or a keeper on the sheath.

I will photograph them and forward them to if thats ok Peter?

Some great knives pictured above,my little offering is one thats not "home made" but is one i had designed and made to my specs and is one of three made as "sambar capers" no more will be made by RC..note griffo on the blade..not a great pic but its is laying on a sambar mount haha and as you can see by the staining etc on the blade this knife does get used and wasnt made for "showing"

What for beauties :

here are mine

the St Martin is a traditionnal knife of the center of the country.

The damascus (blade) and damascus dust handle is taylor made by a .............bowmaker, Mr Avakian.

i live in the south of Sweden,
Karlshamn to be exakt.
i try to make as many knives as possible,
back in 2002/2003 i studied att the Swedish gunsmithing school.
one of the teachers (Stanley Stoltz) was making a knife and that got me interested.

i usually have 2-4 projekts to work on att a time..
the sad thing is that i can´t forge my own blades so i make them using
the stock removal method.

here is a pic of one i´m working on just for the fun of it.
it´s made of a steel called Aeb-L
and is heattreated to 58-60 HRC.
as you can see the scales have only been roughly cut.
but i have drawn in the outline of the blade.
the scales are olive.
what do you think??
