DT:

they act like quail and are wonderful birds to hunt. very hard to get

john:

i do about 25 on my own land, only during training with sako. othervice i shoot 3-500 pheasant a year, due the fact that i spend most of my time with sako working the birds to the lines of fire.
he has gotten so good that he is getting paid to show up for the hunts.(i hold his money though)
it used to be between 1000-1500 birds a year.

around here it is the man who feeds the birds the best that got them, thats why good gamekeepers come at a premium.

regards peter

John,
We usually make use of all the birds we shoot. This last place we had the tower shoot charges us to clean each bird.
He has a power feather plucker and does a really nice job on the birds.
There used to be wasted birds when you would hunt or shoot all day and then have to clean them when you got home. Now while we're cleaning up he does the birds for us and all we have to do when we get home is rinse and freeze them for later eating.
The birds that get away wounded are fox and cat food. The live birds that get away as you said are seeded into the countryside.

john

by the way, no bag limits at all. but the gamekeeper most of the time is pretty good at planing the shoot, so that he wont run out in mid season.

round here pheasant is plentiful and sometimes a damn pain in the but. try to sleep at the sound of 30 birds in your courtyard(immature though) at sun up knowing that there are 2 months to the season.
or training a young GSP in pointing and searching with birds all over the place and there brains overheating from all the stimuli.

but i cant complain come oktober it is season again you should consider a trip up north.

peter
