GS Custom bullet range report
      #75888 - 08/04/07 10:03 AM

Gents,

I finally had a chance to shoot the GS Custom FN .375 monolithic solid in my Merkel DR. I ordered these last year, but because of my motorbike wreak last September I layed off shooting untill today. As evident in the exhibited target, these bullets perform perfectly. For those who are unfamiliar with the GS FN, it’s probably the best solid on the market; and, according to GS they are perfectly harmless to shoot in a DR.

How about making the image a little smaller
- by about 50 times !

I am in love with both GS Custom (www.gscustom.za) and North Fork (www.northforkbullets.com) bullets.

Here is a 100 yard target that I shot with my .470 capstick using GS Custom FN solids. And it was not even my best group.

What's with the harping on about groups using XYZ Bullet ?

It proves that that particular bullet with your load works in your gun.

I could post 50 targets with groups like that from my DR's
with various bullet types.

It's what happens on terminal end of the performance that counts.

And can someone make that damn picture smaller or delete it all together.

As for penetration with GS Custom flat nose solids, on average I have been getting 20 to 25% deeper penetration than with Woodleighs. GS Customs also foul less than Woodleighs and develop lower pressure. The wound channels they create are wider than Woodleighs create and the wounds bleed out better too.

Sounds like I need to try some GS custom solids for my 500. Maybe they will regulate better than the Woodleighs, shoot at a lower pressure, and foul less as well!!

500 grains-
Question-
Have you tried to regulate GS's HV bullets with the flat nose GS's in your 500?? May not be possible-different weights/bullet conformation here but that could be a ??desirable setup for Buff(expanding/solid bullet).

No, I haven't tried. With the nice wound channel and bleed-out that I get with the .510" flat noses, I decided on simplicity. Of course I carry a handful of Woodleigh softs just in case there is a problem lion in the concession.

You may wish to email Gerard at GS Custom to ask him what other customers found when using his HV bullet in a double.

Gents,

A: If I knew how to scale down the image I would.

B: I specifically said this was a range report, why? There are a lot of guys out there who would never shoot a monolithic solid in their DR, but would consider the GS if someone else tried it first. If I had experienced any issues at the range like high pressure or unacceptable accuracy I'd say don't waste you money because I paid well over $100 for a box of 50. You can read the GS web site for the predicted terminal ballistics.

BONANZA, which barrel did each of these shots come from, and at what range?
