A Face Only A Mother Could Love....
      #75341 - 02/04/07 07:47 AM

Well, here he is, picked up as a stray from the streets of Manhattan then sent to a kennel in Pennsylvania as a rescue.

This is Bruno, I named him after a European friend of mine who still rode to hounds in his 80's, Bruno was one of the sweetest and gentelest men you could know. The name seemed suitable for this big guy, 80 pounds of puppy at the moment. My lab, Briar, hasn't decided if she likes him or not.

Ann,

Since you are now "Mom", I hope you do love that face.

I'm sure Briar likes Bruno.....like most girls, she is playing hard to get.

Enjoy the pup.

He doesn't look full grown yet (how old is he?), but he is looking at "Mum" with love.

Should keep unwanted visitors away from your house too.

He's about a year old now. He is very friendly and does not appear to be guard dog material other than people see his big head and THINK he is mean. He's not, in fact he loves kids quite a lot and I assume he came from a family that had kids. My neighbor routinely comes by to take the dogs with them to walk. Bruno loves playing with their lab/border collie cross.

I think Bruno is about 90 pounds now and done growing, he's too big to be pure pit bull and I think he's half mastiff. He has a body that screams mastiff.

A moose came through the property the other day and the dogs were outside on their trolleys, my lab made a huge fuss over the intrusion and I think Bruno just went along with it. He did not know what to make of the huge beast. Wish I was able to get a picture of that!

I am thinking of getting a harness to train the big boy to pull, maybe he will learn this and can haul large game hunting kills out of the woods for me or pull logs off the mountain.

He looks like an American Bulldog or cross to me. The Am Bulls range from athletic 75-110 pounds to real big and less athletic and way over 100 pounds.

American Bulldog Info

Whatever breed or mix he is a good-looking dog.

Edit: Of course, it can be hard to tell the bully breeds apart, especially once they start mixing or crossing.

Charles,

THANK YOU! I checked that website out and did some more googling. I really think you hit the nail on the block head, so-to-speak! I believe this dog of mine is a pure bred American Bulldog based on what I have read. There appear to be different types some have a more boxer scrunchy type face and some look exactly like mine. BTW- they are mentioned as great for hunting pigs!

He is much smarted than my lab and a lot calmer too.

There are several very different bloodlines, the Johnson, Hines, Scott, etc. They can look very different. They are used as catch dogs in hog hunting quite a bit. I have a book where the author used one for a police patrol dog after he lost his German Shepherd.

My dog was supposed to be an Am Bull cross but he turned out to be more of a mutt. That's okay too.
