How Many Rounds???

Men,

How many rounds can one safely fire through an OLD U.K.

built DR in a given shooting session of about 2 - 4 hours

duration? Further, what ever the figure is, [10, 20, 50,

etc.] can such a rifle be shot that much, more than once per

week? The point is, when I get my rifle I WANT TO SHOOT IT

and SHOOT IT TILL MY HEART'S CONTENT!!! If I can't shoot an

old U.K. rifle as much as I want to because it would be

detrimental to the rifle physically, then I really must

consider 1970's and newer rifles from the USA and Germany,

Austria, France, etc. I anxiously await your feed back.

I would not give it a second thought. If you shoot the proper pressure loads you should be able to shoot 1-2000 without any problems.

If it ddoes loosen up just get ift fixed.

Shoot it until your hearts content.

The likelihood of you wearing that gun out
is very slim.

I would worry more about shooting it with very
hot barrels - at least try to let them cool down
a bit between shots.

Jack;
Keep it lubed properly at the hinge and other wear
points, shoot low pressure loads regulated for the
rifle and clean it from the breech with brass or nylon.
The gun will outlast you. some of my doubles have had
several thousand rounds put through them while I owned
them and they were well used when I got them.

Depending on the caliber, I'd expect your shoulder to give up long before the rifle.

I would love to put about 100+ rounds through a 450/400 over several days with and without scope and really get "in sync" with such a Double.

After about 10 rounds thru my 500 NE the fun starts fading fast until another day!!!!

Get a couple of cans of computer duster spray . turn it upside down and spray it down the bores to cool it between shot strings.
