Victorian Govt. going back on their word
      #7419 - 25/01/04 03:03 PM

After they told us they wouldn't implement the rule if we did as they asked ,we complied 100% and more, even their 2 advisory committees said not to ,but Thwaites outraging over 2000 registered hound using deer hunters signed the death warrant to over 6000 yes 6000 loyal foxhounds harriers bassets and crosses there of plus cross bred beagles and blood hounds,Yep thats right only pure bred beagles and pure bred bloodhounds can be used to scent trail Sambar deer. Over 96% of hounds used for this are foxhound or foxhound crosses. They say we can still use them for hunting vermin on private property . Crap they are trained and bred to hunt only sambar. With most councils only allowing 2 dogs per residence, they have to go to make way for the beagles and blood hounds legaly required to hunt.IF YOU are one of those blind or just plain ignorant people who welcome this new ruling beware because your sport is next, first you will be put out of the national parks the powers that be will say you can hunt where the doggers used to hunt the following year or so they will close it down full stop. There already is a govt. memo circulating thru CFA and other depts.stating the future goal is to shut down ALL parks allowing access only during school holiday periods etc . I kid you not. So all hunters if you are asked for help or support in the ensuing few months please don't hesitate to oblige as you all know UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FALL yes there will most likely be protest rallies etc.You duck shooters out there should especially lend a voice cos your not getting a fair deal either.

sambar02

Is there any rationale behind the ban on these breeds or cross-breeds of dogs?

Also your comment on holidays and antional parks etc, what are you referring to here? Hunting with hounds, hunting sambar at all, any public access?

Thanks, just looking for clarification.

Sambar

Most of the people on this forum don't have any idea what you are talking about. This sounds very interesting but could you give us a little background and more information on what exactly is going on?

Two dogs per household? The Government tells you how many and what breed of dogs you can have?

I don't know why thay ban any breed of dog. Perhaps snobery by the K9 council. Whats the difference between a GSP and a Ridgeback? Both can be trained the same!

The 2 dogs a house rule is a local govt bilaw not a Vic state law, this is not just a Victoria thing a mate of mine used to live on Bribie island nth of Brisbane and they had a 1 dog per house rule.
I sure would not like 10 hounds in the house next door, the smell and the noise.
While I don't agree with the tightening of any gun/hunting laws the hound hunters have a well deserved bad reputation.
There are crews out there that have no regard for the animals they hunt or private property.
I have been told of a lone dogger with 20 plus hounds that lets the dogs kill the deer and just likes to film them do it.
A friends family property has had in the past hound teams start dogs on the road adjoining the property where the deer tracks went over the fence, this is deliberately running hounds on private property without permission.
another friend was in a hound crew untill he got sick of the kill all deer attitude one weekend they killed 11 deer and only took the backstraps and 1 leg from 1 of the 11 killed the rest were left to rot.
The only thing we have to thank hound hunters for is the spread of sambar, even this may not be correct. The theory is the dogs chase them further afield hence increasing the invasion rate.

As fore trusting the government - not since they stated gun registration would not be used to confiscate firearms that was 1986 I think (Vic Govt).

Trolls and Govts are the same LPOS

Divide and conquer.

It worked for Alexander and Julius Ceasar. I'm sure it will work for our governments as well.

In reply to:

"I have been told"

This isn't a jibe directed at you 416SW, but it is always important to find out if the person telling one something actually witnessed it. Or was he merely passing on the "story" that someone else told him. Who was the person that actually witnessed it?

I'm sure there are bad hound teams, the bit about starting off on private property sounds very possible. I imagine lots of stalkers also tresspass and poach on the private property as well, except they might not be as visible.

I have not lot in either side in the hound debates. I was invited to come with a team once, but stupidly lost my drivers licence in that state and couldn't get back for a while (bloody Vic cops and their speed cameras targeting SA number plates ). Would like to do it at least once one day.

divide and conquer!
I will quote my post
" While I don't agree with the tightening of any gun/hunting laws the hound hunters have a well deserved bad reputation."
So while I don't agree with hound hunting, I don't support any tightening of the laws, because we(stalkers) will be next. It is a case of slowly slowly catchy monkey. If there was a pro hound hunting march I would march with them.

re: I have been told: it was by 3 different people who I will not name. If the idiots home movies got into the hands of the media just think of the damage it would do to hunters in general and especially hound hunters.

Nitro no offence taken and no offence meant, just thought I would explain.
