Was in my local gunshop today and for a while I have had a fancy to build a nice light Mauser actioned "classic" medium game rifle and have been serching for a sutible action. On the rack was a 98 actioned palma rifle so I had them drop the stock off. It is a 1911 Spandau GEW action all matching serial numbers and an aftermarket target trigger and not even a pit to the bolt face. The owner told me that nobody shoots these old Mauser actioned target rifles anymore and I could have it for £ 75.00. So I said yes. Did I do the right thing??
I just bid and won a reworked 98 action with a custom Shilen barrel, aftermarket custom trigger and mannlicher stock with great wood for a very reasonable price at an auction site.
I plan on reboring the rifle to 35 Whelen to be a handy opensighted carbine.
There are lots of custom mauser mannlicher rifles out there for a fraction of what was spent to build them.
Bamble, No, you screwed up badly! However, since I'm philanthropic, I'll relieve you of your mistake. Just send it to Florida and I'll send a check to cover your expenses.
