Nick

Once again a winner. I loved Gates's book on Asia.

"I loved Gates's book on Asia."

Hi Mike! After borrowing your copy of "Trophy Hunter In Asia", I went out and purchased a copy anyway. It's truly a captivating read. Further on, I found a copy of "Trophy Hunter in Africa" and enjoyed it too, but not so much as Asia.

I agree

His book on Africa was just so so. I think at heart he was a Mountain Hunter and it showed in his love of the animals and the hunts.

What fun to have spent a few weeks with Gates and Klein on a real Sheep Hunt.

Yea, "the trophy bug" ... all those guys were bitten hard.

"Ardent Hunters" ... "Driven" ... "Tortured Souls" ... "Men Posessed" ... such anguish they endured.

Nick,

There are members at the Pakistan Hunting Community who would love this piece. Many of them are enthusiastic hunters and ardent conservationists. I shall post a link to this thread on the PHC and invite their members over to participate here.

Thanks again and good hunting!

Fantastic Nick, thank you so much!

I agree with the posts above about Gates' book "Trophy Hunter in Asia", especially his story about his epic 95 mile march to Chapinchingal Pass for his Marco Polo rams. That hunt by him and Herb Klein opened up Marco Polo sheep hunting to sportsmen post war. That tale, will probably forever be held as the gold standard to which all sheep hunts will be judged. It was adventure.

I'm mid-way through a fascinating Asian sheep (argali) hunting book right now by Robert Anderson, "Wind, Dust and Snow - The Great Rams of Asia". Anyone interested in the re-opening of Asia to sheep hunting (Cold war to present day), I highly recommend this book.

Thank you again Nick. Two Tickets to Hunza is a great find and many of us would not have been able to read it if you weren't savvy enough to share that with us. Much appreciated.

Dave

Very nice. I missed being old enough and having enough pocket money to hunt places like that when they still existed and when Americans could travel safely to them.

I know you can still hunt Marco Polo sheep now, at great cost, but somehow I imagine it is a little different.
