Been meaning to post this info, visit http://www.ktpguns.com/ to view a very nice hammerless 45-70 DR. I've seen the rifle while visiting the shop on another mission, don't quote me but I believe they were asking $6,000- plus and it is beautiful. Thank God I've got this outside hammer fixation!

A cased Kodiak Double Rifle Trail Guns Armory 45-70 showed up as a 7 day auction on GunBroker 2 days ago, opening at $2,649- w/no reserve, only to close in a little over 12 hrs. - what happened, anyone know?

Thanks, Joe(hobbyguymaine)

I know exactyly what happened to it - I know own my first double rifle. I had been looking for some time and finally decided to give one of the 45-70 doubles a try. If it shoots well I am thinking of having it chambered to a 450 No.2.

I have read both good and bad reviews for the Trail Guns Armory doubles. Does anyone here own one and what do you think of them?

Thanks,
Rodney (GiraffeHunter)

You can get one new for ~ $4500 from Dewings. I've been waiting to hear some reports on them before going any further. According to Dewings, they are regulated for a "european" load for the .45-70, and it is hotter than the standard 405/1300 fps U.S. load. How much hotter I don't know. Pilgrim

I have a Siace 45-70 double and its a great gun. I have a 405 grain load at 1650 fps that shoots about a 1.5 inch group. I have a 300 grain load that shoots the same point of impact as 405 grain but I haven't chronoed it yet. Load is probably around 1850 fps or more. I stopped at these loads because they shot so well I didn't need to improve any. These guns are very nice and very well built. I think they would handle a heavier load and might even shoot better alittle faster. I like the gun so much that I just ordered another in the EL version which is the side plate higher grade with ejectors.

Would love to see pictures of both the Kodiak and the Siace if you guys have time to post in the Photo Archive section. They look really cool for a NA DR.

I will add some more pictures from the field when the photo host gets its server problems worked out.

For those considering modification to larger cartridges, you might want to slug the barrel of these guns (talking more Pedersoli here) first. I had a customer send recovered bullets and slugs from his and they measured .4556". Euro 45-70s seem to tend small; down to the minimum SAAMI spec. That's fine for a low pressure 45-70 and soft/thin jacketed bullets but I would think twice before trying .457-.458 steel jacketed or mono solids in them. The owner had "gotten away with" steel jacketed solids but I wouldn't recommend it.

Bulldog,

I will try to attach a photo of the Siace Alsaka Lusso EL version. It has upgarded wood, H&H style side bolsters, false side plates, upgraded engraving, extended bottom tang, etc. A really nice rig. Several friends and me have a few in 45-70 on order

I just got a Kodiak in 45-70 in the last couple of weeks.Pedersoli tells me it is regulated with Winchester 300 grain factory loads.I checked on that load and Winchester lists 1880 fps. They also provided some loading data using Vectan Tu 2000 powder for 300 and 400 grain bullets.Only problem with that is I have not located a source for it in the USA.If anyone out there has a Kodiak and wants a copy of the regulating target for their rifle Pedersoli will E-MAIL it to you, they need the serial number of your rifle.Send an E-Mail to www.davide-pedersoli.com with your request. My target looked mighty good!I have'nt shot it yet due to being laid up for a while from a surgery to my right arm. Will post my results when I heal up.
