How can I guesstimate recoil?

Are thier computers or calculators that will give you a good guess at what the free recoil lbs of a load/gun will be?

I'm pondering a Ruger #1 in 45-70 (weighs about 7.25 lbs which I think is a little light). The weigh makes me hesitant on the purchase, although weight can be added I guess.
