Whoo Hoo!
      #72310 - 23/02/07 07:39 AM

Just picked up my CH in 475 NE. Have rounds and other stuff coming. Bought it from 470Capstick2 over on AR.

I'm as giddy as a wallflower schoolgirl who just got asked to the prom by the captain of the football team.

It's my first double. Can't wait to shoot it.

Steve -- Please....you're as pumped as the captain of the football team who just convinced the captain of the cheerleading squad to watch the submarine races with you at the beach.

Oh yeah, and we need those pics...of the rifle...and, maybe, the cheerleader...

Badger,

Sorry about that. My buddy once told me that I was missng that voice in my head that kept me from saying gay stuff. I was great at the singles bar in my day .

Here's some quick photos that I just snapped. Don't do the rifle justice.

I looked for some cheerleaders, but because of the restraining order, it's difficult for me to get near a school with a camera.

Congratulations Steve. Do you have any African hunting plans in the near future for it, or will you wait a bit to get to know it first?

Tinker,

The barrels measure 25 inches from muzzle to breech. It weighs 10.4 lb according to my lying bastard bathroom scale

Erik,

Planning to go to Mozambique in 2008 for buff, hippo, croc, and sable. Maybe elephant..?

Steve-

Looks nice, I'm just a little envious.

About that bathroom scale and accuracy.
Get it straight whether or not you'll be holding a beer when standing on it.
I've found that if you're going the 'weigh self while holding beer' route, you'll get the most consistent results if you make sure you're always holding a full beer. Otherwise you might get fluctuations as it's sometimes difficult to judge how much beer (ounces...) is left in the can when you step on the scale to weigh yourself.

Go at it with the full beer can method for a couple of weeks and get back to me. I bet you'll get more reliable results from that bathroom scale.

Handsome rifle. You are already sound like a hooked doubles man.

DG Bolt action types will now look at you with envy and as my bolt gun Ele hunting buddie GM said if you work at it your "big game survivability" just went up!!

Nothing like it!!

Cheers

Steve,

I hope you'll keep us updated on both the rifle and the hunt!

As an experiment, I also suggest you get your wife/GF to stand on the bathroom scale with the rifle. When you are not looking. You will most likely find out that the rifle weighs less when a woman is using the scale as they many of them have a subconcience blind spot that automatically subtracts a bit of the total weight when informing others.

Erik

Erik,
Great idea! Any suggestions as to how to get the wife to hold the rifle, without letting her know I bought it?

Steve

Glad you've finally posted some pics. That's a nice looking shooter. Was it refinished before? Just curious since the color case hardening seems to be very bright and not washed out. Good going and happy shooting.

Tell her you won it in a raffle at the pub.

Works for me...

Marrakai,

Yes, it was refinished. Al (the previous owner) told me that Doug Turnbull did the case color hardening (bone and charcoal).

I tried the pub thing once, My arm still doesn't bend correctly.
