Hey, Y'all,
Just a newbie-type question, I guess, but why did most of the English and Continental builders of fine double rifles always put so damn much drop in the stock? After 40+ years of trapshooting I'm a firm believer in the theory that the straighter the stock, the less damage to one's face, and usually with no perceived increase in recoil. Both these beauties look like they would immediately relocate your right eye to approximately the center of your BALD SPOT!!! Right or Wrong? Please be gentle, as I am a double-gun virgin.

I'll let an expert answer it with more intricacy especially about stock design and recoil, but these doubles are designed to place your eyes directly with the open sights.

You may know the below anyway but some visitors may not.

Trap shotguns purposely are designed to raise your head and sight picture. As a clay target travels away from you in a rising manner the trap shooter can see the clay follow it and fire. All while the clay is in sight. The gun is designed to shoot slightly higher than the "point of aim". This means while you are pointing or "aiming" at the clay the gun is actually pointing in front of the clay.

With a field shotgun like I use for trap when I occasionally shot it, I must actually 'cover' the target with the shotgun as the sights and point of the gun are roughly the same.

American style stocked bolt actions are now all designed fro scope use and raise the head for a scope. A lot of European stocked bolts are still designed for open sights so the head is unsupported when using a scope especially using high rings for larger scopes.

How do I go about ordering one with a 30 round magazine and lazer? Also, who scratched the sides and barrel all up? Camo stock...?

Pretty nice guns! The only problem I can see is that they don't belong to me.

I am fortunite enough to handle and shoot some of these from time to time. My good friend and gunsmith (I KNOW how to pick my friends) regulates barrels for H&H, and sometimes for Kreighoff. For a decent bottle of brandy, he is restoring the scope on my Merkel two barrel set, and tightening back up the claw mounts.

I sure hope these guns need re-regulating, I'd like to see them in the flesh.
