I think that 10,75x57 is the mauser kaliber witch you mean but there is no rimmed version available if i'm right.
Still looking for 11mm (approx) kalibers of sauer drillings between 1890-1910.

The 11mm Mauser is probably the most common one as DoubleD said. It's also called 11.15X60R or .43 caliber Mauser.

What about Beaumonts? How common are they? I think I've seen couple of Austrian guns in 11x50R Beaumont and 11.5x50R Beaumont caliber.

Hallo Paatti,

a cupple of years ago, i´ve saw on the local shootingrange here an owner of a old drilling in 16gage and 11,15x65R (blackpowder). In a old german catalouge from 1911 this calibre belongs to the standart.
Last year somebody sells a drilling (not a Sauer&Sohn) in 12gage and 10,75x52R.
This bouth and the 11,15x60R/M71 (.43Mauser) were the most uesed 11mm-rimed-calibres between 1870 and 1920.
After World-war I, this calibre were completly gone. Arrond the late 1880´s the caliber like 8x57R/360, 9,3x72R, 9,3x82R were more used. First with blackpowder and lead-buillets, later with smokeless powder and nickel-coatet buillets.
The 11,2x72R could be the rimed version of the 11,2x72 Schüler, a german big-game-cartrige of 1904, which is from the power not very far from the new .450Rigby Mag.
The rimed version of this cartrige an d the rimed 10,75x57 were also in the old gun-catalouge from 1911, but they are very rare, maybe there were just a few guns build for them.

regards from Germany
Manolito

Paati,

I'm wondering if the reason for your question is that you have such a Sauer drilling with a rifle barrel in a caliber you have been unable to identify. If that is the case, I would recommend having a chamber cast made and comparing the dimensions of the chamber cast with the known dimensions of the various 11mm cartridges you have listed. Since there can be a great deal of difference in the pressures generated by the various 11mm loadings, it is certainly important to have exact information concerning the cartridge you are dealing with.

Don't forget to have an accurate cast of the rifle bore made, as well. Exact bullet size is another important factor.

The 1910 catalog from Burgsmüller lists as the most common calibers:
9.3x72R
9.3x82R
11x65R Drilling-Patrone (slightly conical case)

There are 11.15 mm bullets offered for reloading:
a flat nose, 47 bullets per kg (328 grains)
a round nose, 48 bullets per kg (321 grains)

It seems that a distinction between 11 mm and 11.15 mm was not made.

I have inherited some original pre-WWII 11.15 swaged lead bullets and some more bullets cast by my father from an original mold, both types weighing around 300 grains.

One of them is prodused by factory of Babette Stahl in Suhl - bullet weight is 21.13 g

The second is prodused by Utendorfer in Nurenberg - bullet weight 19.28 g

I have a Sauer and Sohn in 16x16 x 11.15x65R. I have not spent much time with it as it is at my gunsmith having a new spring made. I have some pictures here that may give you some more information. There is another post originated by me below that may be helpful to you.

Dear All,
I have opened new topic at the "Cartridge Collecting and Swapping" forum.
It is about 11x65R cartridge (not 11.15x65R LK) and my drilling.
