Warning-Seller on GunsAmerica & GunBroker-Gene Eddins!!!!!!!

To all,

WARNING, WARNING, WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had a bad experience with a seller on GunsAmerica. You are forwarned. There was a 6.5x53R Dutch Sporter by Jeffery which was on GunsAmerica. Over priced I might add. I had been communicating with the seller for about a week and we came to an agreement on Thursay. I was to send money on Friday. The deal was done!!! I got an email from him on Friday morning stating that he checked his email later that evening and someone did a buy it now on Gunbroker. Bottom line he would not sell me the gun after we had agreed to our deal. After several emails and calls back and forth he still would not hold true to his word.

The guy in question has an Army & Navy Lee Speed for sale on GunsAmerica now #976815090 and two bricks of kynoch 9mm ammo #976744090 and 976746952. Anyone dealing with him had better look out.
His name is Gene Eddins and he lives in Stuttgart, AR 72160. He is a snake in the grass and will bite you if you give him the chance. He goes by delta duster.

The buy it now individual on Gunbroker went by the handle: Wyoming.
If anyone knows how to get in touch with him please let me know. I would like to get in touch with him to see if he will sell me the rifle.

With that said I am still looking for a 6.5x53R sporter. Does anyone have one for sale or trade? Any maker.

How crappy!!

The Gunbroker site is generally excellent, especially when dealing with someone with a history of multiple transactions with satisfied customers.

You should contact the powers that manage the website and explain your problem. They may get the fellow kicked off the website!!

What are the actual rules on the selling sites?

If he had the firearm up for advertised sale on a live website with the ability for someone to buy it immediately, then he would also be bound by the website's rules to honour the online order and payment. So two sale "agreements", but one binding one if consideration (ie payment) had already passed.

In most cases, an agreement is not binding until consideration (ie payment or payment of a deposit) has passed hands.

Corbin,

None of the that makes it easier for you of course. You honestly made what you thought was a binding offer on you, and on him. Maybe he should have taken the advert off immediately but it is probably reasonable to wait for money to arrive to ensure the purchase is serious. The guy can't sell it twice.

Nothing to stop you making a complaint though if you feel you were wronged out of a firm deal however.

Of course there may be other aspects to this seller that none of us know about.

***

I know the feeling. On another internet forum a joker in Australia advertised two Sako Finnwolfs in mint condition for sale. The price was very good. I spoke to him on the telephone and it was rifles of his brother-in-law. He gave me a better price if both were purchased together.

I said, "Yes, I will buy both at that price."

In the meantime I think the joker did some checking on prices on the net, which I must say were much better than he was asking.

I sent a few emails to see what was going, remember I had committed myself to buy at his price as well.

Eventually I got an email back saying, "the price you offered me was way too low."

Got him at his work phone number and said "That was YOUR price, that YOU WERE offering for sale, and I accepted it. What is going on?"

He replied with all sorts of other crap, including some insults. Obviously nothing was going to happen and he was trying to put me off.

I was actually willing to pay more, but the fact we had an agreement on price, I'm not that much of a sucker to just cave in immediately. Plus he never named a new price probably because the new price he was after was a MULTIPLE of what he originally named.

I had also asked for photos of the firearms, plus photocopies of firearms licences etc. Who knows what the true story was, as one has also to be careful of sending money to complete strangers. Some of these jokers seem to think someone is going to send them several thousand dollars without any verified ID!

I have been waiting for this joker to reappear one day. Too many people here think you can screw people on deals and its just another fact of life to get over.

Corbin, so I DO know where you are coming from!

I hope that anyone interested in his other rifle (a lee speed) will see this posting and change their mind. At any rate I am still hunting a good condition 6.5x53R sporter.
Everyone please keep your eyes open for me.

First off let me say I have no connection to anyone involved in this transaction. I have bought and sold on a number of on-line gun sites though and I have a couple questions...

You say you exchanged emails & phone calls and finally struck a deal. I assume this means you made the deal outside the auction site?

Did he already have the gun listed when you started negotiating?

I'm not familiar with gunsamerica. Looked em over and wasn't impressed with the difficult to navigate site. Now if this is how GA operates - private negotiations between buyer & seller - then I'm totally out of order. Most auction sites have rules against making bargins outside the auction though. They also hold sellers (and buyers) to the deal made inside the bounds of the site.

Please don't be offended if I'm missing something but considering the above it sounds like your deal was the shady one - he should have never agreed to it or even entertained it by the rules. Had he honored the deal made to you and not the one on the auction site THAT guy (auction buyer) is the one who'd really been on the short end of the stick.

Again, if I'm missing something I apologize up front. Actually most buyers & sellers are pretty much on their own as far as safety. Its the chance you take. Just be glad you hadn't sent your money before he backed out!

Oupa-

The seller had the rifle listed on two different venues.
Corbin contacted the seller via gunsamerica, which is essentially an online classified ad on the web.

meanwhile the seller still had the rifle listed on gunbroker, the auction site.
The deal was made between Corbin and seller. Later on the seller -who should have shut down the auction (shouldn't have had it listed on GA and GB simoutaneously in the first place)- gets an email from a GB buyer and drops the deal with Corbin

Big pile of bullshit on the behalf of the seller.
The seller screwed up and won't honor his word with respect to Corbin's deal.

Seller has no integrity.

"The seller had the rifle listed on two different venues."

Understood and agreed. As I said I'm not familiar with GA. Looked once and didn't like the layout - small pics, poor descriptions, etc...

I've run into simultanious listings on both GB & AA. It's a red flag and the seller should be reported to both site operators, preferably with a link to the other auction so they can see for themselves. I can't stand sellers who end auctions early (except for known "buy it now" situations), sellers who set a low start price with an unrealistic reserve or sellers who either overstate condition or are too stupid to provide an accurate one. However, the game is wide open and you'll eventually run into all of them and more. That said, Thanks corbinshell for the heads-up on this one!

Tinker,

Ditto to what you said.

Oupa,

Like Tinker said GunsAmerica is not really an auction site but more of a listing forum. I did not even realize the gun was on GunsAmerica until someone told me about the rifle and had no idea it was on Gunbroker. I rarely go to GunBroker. From now own I will try and stick to private transactions.

I have run into such a double listing once and the fellow pulled the GB auction and kept the GA going. That's poor form to do both.

I would suggest you check all three sites before proceeding and report the individual who acts in this fashion-listing on GA and one of the bidding sites as well.

Some folks will set up an anonymous e-mail buyer to bid a minimum on auctions with no reserve as well but that's an entirely different issue--

Bottom line-
Some people have no class or ethics at all--

Am I missing something? Marraki had it right. It was doubly listed on gun broker and gunsamerica. You would have had a three day inspection period where you could have returned it. No such luck with gun broker. Move on.

I agree it is normally a condition of an online auction that the firearm is not listed elsewhere during the auction listing.

Such a requirement avoids situations exactly as has been alledged in this thread.

However the complaint should be taken up with the two listing websites.
