Kodiak Double rifle
      #69558 - 16/01/07 09:41 AM

Has anyone hunted with the Kodiak Dr? if so how did do? powder load etc I am thinking this will be a good pig gun. Also how does this rifle measure up to the 12 bore rifles of yesterday?

470: Are you talking about the Pedersoli Kodiak in .72? Haven't hunted anything but bullseyes with the one I had a few years back, but have a new one on order. I think piggies would be about perfect with a very modest round ball load, assuming it regulates in your gun. The Kodiaks can take considerabley more steam, though --close to what the fellas had available circa 1850 -- and something like 130 grains FFg under an 835-grain conical is a breeze.

Thanks bill, did you oreder your from cabelas?,and how was your old one holding up. I seen a Big bore .72 at cabelas in Kc, but it was at $800 plus and I was amazed to see that it had rust around the breach and nipples. I tried to get someone to talk to Me about the gun ,but cabelas sales team wouldnt talk to me our offer any help what so ever!!

I just ordered one 3 weeks ago it is on back order, I hope I didnt make a mistake in the purchase.

I got this 0ne for $750 and change, and have just seen they have the .72 DR now for sale in their cataloge for over $900.

I seen that there was some guys on here had some luck with this rifle

I just wanted this gun to play with while I search for the DR I want.

Thanks 470

470: I ordered mine from Cabela's, too, on sale for $759 and am also on back order. Considering the new price, I think it's a pretty good deal. I swapped off the one I used to own, and sure do miss it, as it was just a darned hoot to shoot and even more fun the .58 Kodiak. I think it will give you a lot of double rifle fun for not much money, and still be capable of dropping some mighty big critters if you are so inclined.

Bill, Great!!! "Im excited cant wait" cabelas said my would be around 02/25/2007 ,but not confirmed. I have the lead balls allready but I am trying to decide on the powder , I do like the 777 and its easy cleaning, I have a bunch of Goex 2f around but it is so dirty and stinks to clean up.

I am just a afraid this gun will like the goex. maybe it will be better than my pedersoli flintlock, the gun is very well built, but is a mess to clean up!!!

How did you .58 run

I recived a catalog the other day and the price of the rifle just went up to over $900.00

I think we did good?

470: The .58 was an absolute blast, and very accurate with round ball loads. It now lives in Texas with a guy who feeds it scary doses of 777 under conicals. I only used Goex in mine. The .72 is even more fun though. There's something about those twin holes almost 3/4 of an inch in diameter. I also like the way the .72 handles -- Pedersoli makes the barrels thicker at the chamber to "stand the gaff" and builds them shorter than on the .58 to keep the feel alive. The effect is to make the .72 Kodak feel like a very, very purposeful tool for serious business, even if the business is perforating paper photos of Cape buffalo.

If you do a search here, you should be able to bring up quite extensive posting about this gun, it's plusses and minuses.

I might as well chime in. Chime.

I got one of these last summer and am very happy with it. It's most accurate with 110 grains of 777 printing a 3.5 inch 4 shot composite group dead center.

When I ordered mine, the lady said they should be in around the end of April. There may have been quite a few people ahead of me, though.

Yeah i just got my notification today and it looks like tentatively the 25th of April, for the Kodiak .72 rifle. Oh well at least they have to give it to me at the 750.00 rate. Is there any books on DR black powder rifles out there I presently have John Taylor's book along with Grame Wright excellent book as well. these big bore front end loaders have to had some kind of write up through the century?. I mean we had big muzzle loader's before breach loaders right!!

Well anyway the wait begains

thanks

Colorado, I think, loads up to 175gr. T7 - not sure I've got the right guy. Someone does.
: Some of the guns apparently don't print even close together with a descent hunting laod, some do. Some want 10gr. BP or T-7 or Pyrodex, some cross, some diverge - seems the luck of the draw-
- Good luck.
: Personally, I'll like to have one myself to play with. There is no better hunting rifle in a ML than a double rifle of large bore. A double 14 bore would have been perfect.
: Seems to me, the locks need work due to breakage and poor tumblers. The nipples sticking way up in the air above the nice looking but useless fences is also a gripe with me.
; Contact Colorado, he'll fill you in.
