Just found this forum, thoght I'd say hello and post a pic of a recent project. Martini-Cadet in .357 Maximum. Took a nice (for East Texas) deer with it a few weeks ago. Thought it was a 6pt, but one side of the rack was broke off that I didn't see. One shot, about 125yds, using Rem factory 180gr..

I also have a large frame Martini project in the works-I think it's going to be a .50-90....

Hello Pedestal,

Welcome to the forum. Hope you find it comfortable and we look forward to hearing more from you, especially the 50-90 project!

That is a sweet M-C, very nice wood. The 357 maximum really shines out of a rifle barrel, eh? I'm surprised we don't see more of this cartridge. A friend of mine pushes some rather heavy for calibre bullets through his and the performance is impressive, to say the least.

Again, welcome, thanks for the pic and be sure to treat us with more contributions.

Regards.

Thanks for the welcome
I was quite amazed at the performance of the little Max on the deer I shot. He simply folded up right where he stood. The wood is Myrtlewood.
Here is a pic of the .50-90 project, with the wood being preliminary fitted. Note the pipe and the dummy bullet. I wasn't sure the big case would "turn the corner" in the Martini action, so I threaded a piece of pipe for it, made a wood insert "chamber", and made a dummy round to check.

I've never seen the Remington factory 180 gr. All I have is the 158 gr. What does the 180 do out of your rifle barrel?

Well, my old Chrony died a few months ago, and I haven't replaced it yet-so I don't know for sure. Closest estimate I can come up with is 1700-1900 fps (24" barrel). Penetration on the deer I shot could not be faulted. Although it didn't hit any heavy bones, the bullet entered the left side, right at the neck/shoulder junction, ranged down through the heart/lungs, skidded along the ride side ribs, and exited the right side flank, just behind the ribs. I scored about a dozen boxes of this stuff, at the local hardware store-at $6.xx something a box!

I'll keep my eyes open. 1900+ fps is what I can get with the 180 SSP and H110 out of my barrel (21").
