I recall seeing a post on here a while back about reinforced actions. While searching the web for guns the other day I found this gun for sale. I have never seen a gun with such an odd reinforcement. Take a look at it

My 8x57 JR doubl rifle has side clips, but nothing quite such as this. Interesting, to say the least. Happy Holidays!

Some nice metal work but I'm not sure I like the design.

It has a goiter.

However, I would buy it if the price were right.

I think it's the Kersten action on a SxS, commonly called the "bullfrog" action.

I wish they had taken a picture where you could see the action better. I am wondering what the locks look like inside and how they work. First one I have ever seen. Bill

I am posting on behalf of tomo577 with some background on this action:

re: bear action
this is a very unique action that was developed about the 20's when there was intense competition in the german gun trade to come up with something new that would scoop the market.
the large ovals are actually part of the locking system...... and they are soldered onto the outside of the frame. they have a curved cut inside that receives a matching curved piece on the sides of the barrel breech. apparently it was a new way to control side to side movement. also acts like a hercules reinforcement clamshell action.
bear must have tried hard to market his products. this one is marked "frank" indicating it was sold by them, not bear. i had owned 2 bear shotguns - one a double marked bear - the other a single bbl trap gun that was engraved and sold by some company in new england !!! the double was top lever, the single bbl trap was a snap action underlever.
Thanks to tomo for the info!

"and they are soldered onto the outside of the frame" now how weird is that. I would have guessed that they milled those out from the solid block of steel. And you wonder why we dont see more of these today! Terribly sore to the eyes
