Dave,
My brother and another friend had 45/70 Pederolsi hammer guns.

They both shot very well and will take any load suitable for the Marlin, including Buffalo Bore, Corbon and Garretts.

I think Ruger No1 loads would be a bit much, for any double.

The loads you have above are plenty.I use some beefed up Marlin loads in my new NEF Handi 45-70.There more than enough.I was thinking of a Kodiak in a hammerless.I would like to find one used, but they are a little tough to find.Do you know any place that has them new for a good price? Thanks for info.Dave.

When you're talking hammerless the price goes up. Saice is getting good reviews as shown here. http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=66410&an=0&page=0#Post66410

Also a member here,"Colorado" is building DR's on shotguns. You could do a search for the info and PM him.

Dave
Something you might think about....
I am a big fan of the 45/70....

However, I have found that a 9,3x74R double is one of the best, if not THE best hunting rifle on the Planet, especially if scoped.

Research my previous posts here and on Accuratereloading.

I have been using a Chapuis 9,3x74R double for the last several years with PERFECT success in Texas, Montana, Idaho, Canada, and 3 Safaris to Zimbabwe.

I have taken game with ironsights and scope.
From beaver and bobcat to cape buff and elephant, it does the job.

Think about it.

AkMike the hammerless is what I want, but I'd take the hammers for a good price.NE450no2 can you get a 9.3x74R in a Double for about the price of the 45-70.I can't go real pricey for a couple years yet till my Caddy's payed off,but I want to play with a Double.Dave.

I just talk to a friend of mine, and he said Remington offers a Double SPR22 in 45-70.I took a look at the site.It olny has a max CUP of 28,000.Is this black powder loads? Is the new Hornady loads more pressure than this ? Are these guns any good for money? Dave.

I've seen 9.3mm doubles for under A$5,000.

Second hand ones would be cheaper too.

Just might have to wait for the right one to come up.

Dave, the Remmy has been dreamed about for several years. None have ever been seen out side of a few examples at gunshows. Don't hold your breath!
I'd look at Colorado's DR's if I were looking for a setup you describe.
He did or maybe does advertize them at 'gunsamerica.com'
45-70 to 50-140 smokeless loads.

I looked on there couldn't find his ad,but looked at the Doubles on theres alot more then is on gunbrokers.I could look at Double pic's all day.

Doubles are addictive! I've got 5 and a new Chapuis due in a couple of weeks. You're getting a "monkey on your back" too!

Look here for the specs. http://members.shaw.ca/cstein0/riflelist2.htm

They're close but the Nitro is bigger capacity.

The Pedersoli Kodiak is stricly a hammer gun. The Siace is available hammerless if I recall correctly.

The new Pedersolis have gotten so high with the Euro/Dollar difference that the Chapuis or Merkel start to look pretty good.

There is a Kodiak on Gunbroker right now:

45-70 Auction

Someone just bought a 9.3 double there as well:

9.3 Auction

Good luck to you!
