A sambar study

I took this pic a month or so ago of two hinds and a big calf as they went about their business of feeding their way to their beds.They were completely unaware of the photographer and were studied for 1/2 an hour or so,note that they are not pictured as many sambar generally are in that they are not looking intently towards the camera.I was happy with the pic but the range was a pain as i couldnt cross the gully in between without being sprung.

how large (weight wise ) do these get?
they look like a fairly solid animal much more robust than white tail deer

We hawe weighed stags and they have ranged from 450pounds to 550 pounds cleaned and there have been some on that basis that were impossibly huge but unweighed that would make 700 pounds plus...a live weight is impossible of course to get at least for me that is haha.

Oh! ...they are much larger than I thought!
from the photo, I figured that they were slightly larger than deer, it would seem that they are more like a yearling moose.

when is the season open for them?
