I took my double rifle hunting Friday. Snapped on the 470 NE barrels, dropped in two 500 grain Woodleigh softs in the barrels and went off in pursuit of a boar. All I could think of was man this gun is heavy as hell to carry around. My sincere appreciation and respect to anyone that can carry this thing around for miles and miles in pursuit of game. This fat boy is out of shape. But I carried it all day long and finally came across a boar. He was angling toward me hidden by a tree. He stuck his head out, then the neck and shoulder and stopped. I’d been practicing for months with this gun and knew this was an easy shot. About 35 yards I pulled the trigger. Impact was phenomenal; a cloud of dust surrounded the entry just forward of the onside shoulder. The exit hole went threw the offside shoulder. The boar was literally knocked off his feet and dead instantly. What impact, shock and devastation were sent from this bullet. I did it and my gun has now been broken in. Now to get in shape.

I couldn't ever get the concept of overkill. Dead before it hits the dirt is a good thing in my books. I doubt that 500gr soft did any hydrostatic shock type damage to the surrounding meat. I say good kill. No offense intended here, but... Who gives a pinch of snot if he could have done the same thing with a 6.5 or even a bb gun for that matter? The 470 did it just fine.

Dugaboy1, My double is a Krieghoff.
I figure the Boar to be "about" the 200 pound mark. (pictures to follow) Tinker, The bullet entered the neck just forward of the front shoulder and exited about midway through the offside shoulder. The entry was clean very little damage. The offside shoulder was broken midway with very little bone fragmenting or hemoraging.
I have other barrel sets for this double but no blood on the 470's. This was just something I wanted to do. It was the most fun you could have with your clothes on.
The meat went to the butcher and we have bacon, chops, roasts and sausage.
What a blast!

Bravo, Foxfire!
There's nothing more fun than hunting with a DR. Who says you have to shoot an elephant with an elephant gun? I made a nice one-shot kill on a whitetail doe last fall with my .500NE. Now if she had charged. . .
I thought it was just the right gun for the kill.
Best, Curl

Well done Firefox!
But I'm a bit confused about the picture. Where are all the girls you usually show us that you hunt with?
