500-

Looks like a great deal!!

A handsome double and I assume "best quality" too-

Recoil is probably on the seizmic scale, though!

I wonder what it weighs? The weight isn't given in the description. Possibly the .577s and .600s are normal weight, but the rest of Owen's DRs are so grossly overweight that I no longer bother to stop and look when I happen across one.

Dan, I thought you said in the past that your previous .600 NE possibly caused an inner ear imbalance? IF so, why get another one?

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyone know what action it is built on ?

It look like it has a very short bar.

Anyone know what barrels M Owen uses ?

I think M Owen advertised this or another gun in the past
and I spoke to him.

Thanks for your help.

Clark, you are right that I was brutalized by my prior .600 NE. Yet when something is a good deal, it is hard to pass up. So far I have not hunted any elephant with a .600 NE and would like to.

Dan,
How about this, you buy the 600, book a 21 to 30 day elephant hunt with Brooklands and I will go with you.

Tony, I walk too fast to use up all that time ele hunting! Maybe I could burn 30 days on a serious trophy bull hunt in Moz, but for the dinky ones I hunt, 10 days is plenty of time for a multi-elephant bag.

However, you are more than welcome to go with me any time. In fact, if you buy the rifle, I will buy you 20 rounds of ammo for your hunt. And you can shoot up my tuffpak too!

500 NITRO

I too thought it looked short in the bar length, but that may just be down to the angle of the photo, I am guessing that Mr. Owen makes his own actions

But Dan don't you see that the bullet holes in the Tuffpak are actually there to protect your rifle. Unlike inferior traditional cases you can actually lighten the weight of your Tuffpak by shooting "ventilation holes" in it to make it pass the weight restrictions easier. In addition those holes create more surface area actually making the case walls "stronger". Moreover, those holes cause air to pass through the case reducing the chance your rifles break inside.

Well at least I could see some of that in the Tuffpak's new ad campaign... Just like "its too your advantage that there is no padding inside this expensive plastic box you just paid $400 for..." Yeah, right... And I say this as a Tuffpak owner...

Looking at the barrels, does anyone know if the action uses a third bolt in the breach face or is that just a barrel extension from the lumps?

Just done a currency conversion and in £'s sterling the gun works out at £12,362.00, that is definitely a good buy for a .600 double

JTOMLINSON,

It looks like a standard Greener crossbolt to me, but I have no more information than anybody else. Just looking at the picture.

I know 2+ years ago he had a .500 he had built for sale. I think he had taken it back in trade on something else if I recall what he told me correctly. It was heavy. I later saw it in Dallas and it looked like a .577 or .600 frame.

I am guessing this one is pretty normal for a .600. If he had it for sale earlier he never told me, but that doesn't mean anything either.

Guys,

I've talked to K.O. about this rifle on the phone.

He said it got a very good amount of engraving on it.

Any one who wants one with near zero engraving can buy direct from K.O. and save serious $$$$ compared to the asking price on this.

In 14 months you'll have one built to your own measurements.

577 NE is also available at the same cost and same build time.

Typical greener cross bolt, not to have intercepting sears nor articulated forward trigger, about 14 pounds or a little more.

Jack:

What is the price of his scaled down (sans engraving) .600 NE?

Jack,

Do you know if Ken uses a 10 gauge shotgun action for his .600, or does he build a new action from scratch?

I have no interest in wasting Mr. Owen's time asking him questions about a rifle I have no interest in buying. But after your statement it is obvious that you have the information and were willing to share info with the group.

But I guess you are not willing to share price figures with people that ask.

500 Grains,

Mr. Owen builds his actions from scratch, I can't

remember the details about the bbls.

Clark,

I don't want to seem rude, sorry it has come across that way.

I did not ask Mr. Owen's permission to repeat the quote that

he gave to me, so I am choosing to be a bit vague about the exact figure.

I ask YOU, what if he said 20K or 18K or 14K or what ever?

Rest assured it's enough of a difference to make me not even think about this used one.

For those that want a rifle in 577 NE or 600 NE my advise is to call

Mr. Owen and get a full understanding of what he charges and what you'll get.

This way a comparison can be made between Searcy, Heym, Owen, etc.

To 400NitroExpress,

His rifles are heavy for caliber in calibers UNDER 577 NE.

This because he ONLY builds actions in CORRECT sizes for 577NE, 600NE and 4 Bore.

If you want a 500NE or smaller caliber double, you're getting it on a 577NE sized action.

I asked if he was thinking of making smaller actions and he said with certainty that he had no such plans.
