Houston, we have lift off...

Got a little time at the range today with temps in the 20s (F), and the typical Wyoming 'breeze' of 30-40 mph.

Shootin' the 500 Ruger tryin' a different powder, enjoying a thermos of a particularly excellent South African bean, and puttin' big holes in the paper.

Looked through the rear aperture and noticed something didn't look quite right. Closer inspection revealed my front sight's white bead had gone into orbit with the last round! Damn... I thought this only happened to double rifles!

'Twas an NECG front sight and the height I use seems to be on constant backorder. Argghh. Believe I'll buy two when they're in stock at Brownells again.

And I'll be calling the boys at NECG tomorrow. Methinks they need some better glue!

Guess I'll be tryin' out that little Leupold scope this weekend when I go out in search of the extremely rare giant Wyoming jackrabbits that are known to attack humans on occasion.

These beasts are, of course, the reason I was forced to build a big bore rifle....

Here is the page link for the NECG front sights for the Rugers:

www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=9658&title=RUGER+HIGH+VISIBILITY+SIGHT

In all fairness to NECG, I may have damaged the sight when I was installing it. I wanted a tight fit but I may have left a bit too much material as I really had to tap her in with a small nylon hammer. I may have nicked the bead when I was removing it to install a new plunger.

The folks at NECG are replacing the sight for me and they said this scenario is a most rare occurance.

I use the .375" height with the NECG receiver peep and the .350" with the Williams FP rear sight.

I'm awaiting the arrival of an XS rear peep that fits the Ruger quarter rib and will report on my experience with that unit.

Regards.
