Very difficult choice between handling and close range stopper

Does no one think there is a bit of prestige in owning a well made double? Not a main reason for owning a double, but I get alot of satisfaction saving up for one and then getting it.

Best close range stopper and quick second shot. These catagories overlap some since in the real world it might be your second shot which is the stopper, a shot you might not get with an equal power/bullet diameter/bullet weight bolt rifle.

Bigdog,

I do. Plus all the other reasons. That is why I selected "other". A double rife is the ultimate expression in a hunting rifle, be it small or large game. The ruger No.1 is a close second. Neither has been converted from a weapon to kill a man.

For me the best quality of a double is that it gives me the courage to stalk inside of 10 yards on elephant. It is a little dicey doing that with a bolt gun.

The very best quality of a double rifle is the absolute wonderful feeling it gives the owner every time he takes it out to look at it, handle it, shoot it, or hunt with it. No other firearm will make you fall in love every time you encounter it. A double rifle has that power.

Aside from that power, a double rifle has all the attributes and qualities previously mentioned in this thread and all the others.

Simple, really. If you don't feel a tingle when you hold it, you aren't cut out for a double rifle. In that case, save yourself a lot of money and trouble: just get a piece of tupperware stocked bolt trash. All you are thinking a gun is for is to throw lead.

These polls should be multiple choice, especially in this case!

The Answers should have been:

Handleing,

fast second shot,

reliability,

best close range stopper!

And in some cases the best chambering for the job!

I voted for fast second shot, simply because I couldn't vote for all the plusses that the double rifle imbodies!

If it doesn't handle the way a double rifle is supposed to, it isn't a double rifle, no matter how many barrels it has. It strikes me that a number of today's makers concentrate on "better mousetrap" gimmicks to sell double rifles rather than concentrating on the fundamental basics.
