Looks ugly.

Bet someone died or was mauled terribly.

Where is the shooter, and what prompted the attack?

I think it is an elephant back safari. Possibly darting a tiger for research or whatever.

Dramatically shows a tigers power and also what tiger hunting from the back of a howdah was once like, and also how howdah pistols came into being.

Quote:

This is a rare sequence of a tigress attacking an elephant that has strayed too close to ... all » the tigress' cubs. There was an incident in the previous days when the cubs of the tigress were found to be too close to local habitation and a plan was made to relocate them. The tigress did not take too kindly to the relocation idea, naturally, and vented her ire on the poor elephant and its 'passengers'!

My father who shot 21 tigers told me that his father (my grandfather, who shot 54 tigers) told him that when a tiger charges all you see is a blur of stripes coming at you. He told me son I thought the old man was exaggerating, but believe me that's all you see! My father told me he shot his first tiger when he was 16 and it charged him and he had to shoot it again. Believe it or not his fav tiger gun was a 9x57 Mauser. On the other hand my grandfather used a hammer 500H&H rifle to shoot most of his tigers! My father and a friend with a pair of tigers. I believe these were shot with a 425 Westley Richards! Oh those were the days........
