Anyone use one of these?
      #64073 - 16/10/06 06:55 AM

Maybe this is not the right place to post this, but though this gun is a muzzleloader, I thought this would be the best forum to ask on because it it is a U/O double. Since it is recommended with charges of 150 grains of BP, it should be a really hard hitter at muzzleloading ranges for Midwestern deer.

I also wonder how it would compare with the SxS Pedersoli doubles in .50 cal.

Thanks for all replies in advance,

Looks like quite a reasonable price.

One difference to the side by side Pedersoli's is this one can take a scope if desired. Also of course no hammers. A modern looking two shot black powder muzzle loader.

NitroX,

I don't use a scope for hunting as my eyesight is quite good and I only use glasses for reading. But this gun looks really nice and it is available for a lower than list price from dealers here. You can't get discounts on Pedersolis. That's why I asked if anyone had any experience with it.

Cheers!

Trouble is, it's not legal to hunt with during the muzzle loader season in Virginia, and I suppose, many if not all other states. The law requires a single shot.

agreed Curl but from stricly a collectors standpoint, i dont think that you would see that gun in the field a great deal anyway.... its just to rare and precious a slice of Americana as original as it is.

Just when you think you've seen it all.....someone uncovers this jewel

Cpt Curl,

Illinois allows you to hunt with a ML during the last week of gun season, and this would be legal during that time. Also, Illinois and Wisconsin have off season problem animal hunts allowed if a land owner gets permission and these guns could be used during that time as well.

My interest in this is because it is the only double other than the Pedersoli ML that I can afford to buy.

JTG

That is definitely, as you put it, a piece "with more flair." I doubt that whoever eventually buys it would hunt with it because of that very flair. A beautiful work of art to have in one's collection, of course!

Good hunting everyone!

Americana? I would wager it's made in Italy. I would be most surprised if it is made in the USA.

If I were to have a ML double I would want the Pedersoli .72 cal. It's a 12 bore and should do amazing things with round balls. Chasseur has a Pedersoli ML double in .54 cal. I have shot it. It's well regulated and accurate. Too bad not legal in ML season. By the way, the last I heard, he's looking to sell it.

The law allows inlines primed with 209 primers, stuffed with jacketed rifle bullets in sabots, and topped with variable power scopes. These rigs will produce ballistics similar to a .308 Win. Yet they won't allow a double flint lock, whether original or a reproduction. Nor a double cap lock.

I think the powers-that-be have totally screwed up the ML season. It originally was promoted as a season for traditional weapons. I think they ought to allow any non-cartridge (ML) black powder arm designed prior to 1890, or a replica thereof, and prohibit anything else.

But then again, Virginia just this year approved cross-bows during archery season. The game commission has its ear to the gun and equipment lobby, as the seasons are for no more purpose than to sell the newest whiz-bang arms and equipment.

Grrrrrrr!!!!!

Glad I got that out.

Ok, I just realized I haven't followed this thread closely enough.

I now assume DoubleTrouble is referring to the Swivel Breech rifle in the link posted by JohnTheGreek (which I just looked at). I agree it is a fine looking rifle and a traditional design. Also, it unquestionably is made in the USA.

My comments above were directed at the O/U rifle first pictured above, which is non-traditional and probably made somewhere other than the USA.

That swivel breech rifle looks really nice.

Mehul, if you are in the market for a double ML you ought to contact Chasseur. I can personally vouch for his Pedersoli. It's not as nice as this swivel breech, but it's not nearly the cost either.

Also, I agree we can hunt with any of these in the general rifle season. My rant above has to do with the early ML season, and the late ML season too, for that matter.

During the REAL rifle season I plan to hunt with a breech loading DR!

Cheers, guys,

Curl

”Swivel Breech” Kentucky Rifle

This ”Swivel Breech” Kentucky double rifle was manufactured by Henry E. Leman of Lancaster, Pennsylvania in the late 1840’s or early 1850’s. Innovative & Quality Workmanship best describes this exceptional condition, rotating barrel design, 45 caliber Kentucky Rifle. It’s Multi barrel concept, certainly an ingenious innovation from that period and crafted of fine quality. This Rifle still retains it’s original bore worm, with period original hemp pulling cord, in PatchBox and is in exceptional untouched condition. Rifle stock boasts ”Fine” quaility brass inlays and patchbox, with stock construction and ramrods of Curly Maple. Trigger assembly contains front set trigger for ”fine” accuracy. Metal finish is original, containing no pitting or rust. A finer example of an American manufactured ”Swivel Breech” would be very difficult to locate.
Price: $3,200.00

I've been looking at these. Cabelas

They're .72 caliber, SxS (which I prefer the look of), and they're less than $1000. Granted, you can't mount a scope but they just have that traditional SxS DR look. Anyone have any opinions on these? Any experience?
