470 Nitro Weight
      #64002 - 14/10/06 07:49 AM

Hi Guys,
What weight would make for comfortable shooting with a Ruger No1 in 470 Nitro. I'm thinking around 10.5lbs should do the job. Its hard to get weight into a number 1 & I don't want to end up with a super long barrel to get there. I want to retain a nice pointy ballance. I guess this is where a mercury recoil reducer in the stock (or two) would be a good idea to help counter balance all the weight up front. Just after your opinions & experience on the matter.

My Ruger #1 heavy rifle is a 505 Gibbs. With a Pacnor straight taper barrel and one breako mercury do-dad in the butt it weighs 12+lbs with a Weaver K2.5 Microtrack mounted on the Ruger quarter rib. My rifle balances just forward of the receiver. You should be able to hit your 10lb wieght by carefully choosing the barrel contour and length.
